This is such a random spot for this show. A weird old sports bar with like 3 regulars on most days, from my experience. Might go, tho

    For reference:

After a quick Google search, it looks like they've been having townie metal nights for a while. The booker probably just decided to book something other than a Metallica tribute act for once.

What are some of your favorite black metal releases (preferably from the last couple years I may have missed, but I’ll accept some classics)? I need some good stuff to listen to at work while I’m battling Covid infected movie chuds.

bonus points if every other track isn’t just ambient forest sounds or violin solos

    on Spotify please

We reach for the longest shadow

It's kind of blackgaze-ish but the new Mol record from this year rules.

Speaking of more out there stuff, here's a new solo release from Ryan Parrish of Iron Reagan, Darkest Hour, Mammoth Grinder, City of Caterpillar, et al. fame under the moniker Slow Burning Rage. This one's kind of hard to pigeonhole, but if you're into jazzy, sludgy, more experimental stuff you'll probably at least appreciate it.

Same here. Also I'm not really likely to listen to an ambient release like that on vinyl, but might pick it up anyway for the CD with the bonus track.

Riptime, indeed! Self-described "adventure metal", it's speed metal with bits of NWOBHM/NWOTHM, and a ton of fun:

This is more like blackened post-metal, but the Glassing album is one of my favs of the year:

Excuse me for not reading the fine print and also mentioning the drum orchestra on one of the tracks. That one was a trip.

Ryan Parrish's vitae includes the following of note:
Darkest Hour (member from The Mark of the Judas to The Human Romance)
Mammoth Grinder (currently if they're still around - IDK)
    Iron Reagan (currently)
    Terminal Bliss (currently)
    Bleach Everything (currently)
    Suppression (currently)
    City of Caterpillar
    Smoke or Fire

Also a bunch of other smaller projects. Dude is insanely prolific and a talented drummer.
