Also I've been listening to Foundations of Burden pretty heavily. Band is great.

 

New Mastodon track is tight, hell of a chorus

 

The new Mastodon track is what should've followed Crack the Skye in the first place.

 

Wut? It's right up the same alley as both the hunter and once more round the sun, could easily slot on both albums

 

Some of the riffing on it sounds reminiscent of some tracks that were on Blood Mountain/Crack the Skye to me. I dig it more than anything on the last two albums. I should probably go back and re-listen to them at somepoint, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Regardless, the new Pallbearer track is dope too.

 

Well yeah some of the riffing on once more sounds like that too that's why I'm confused, this is what they followed crack the skye with, you just dig it more which is fine

i think the similarities to CtS come from them working with Brendan again

Wow so Old Man Gloom are dope. Listened to No like five times this past week. Love all the associated acts. Reading up on their other albums I find it interesting they all have to do with primates.

 

Have you checked out Sumac? Their latest What One Becomes is one of the heaviest albums I've heard in a long time. So good.

Isis, Old Man Gloom, Zozobra, and Rosetta are my favorites. Really great bands. Otherwise I'm not extremely keen about alot of the genre.

I like how it's less serious and more sunny California melancholia than their peers

Palms is ok. Vastly prefer Isis, and Deftones.

 

I feel like I could condense Deftones entire discography down into about 7 songs that I would be semi excited to listen to depending on the day.

 

I feel like I could condense the Deftones discography into about 8 albums that I am excited to listen to at any time

 

Really can't wait for the new Darkest Hour album
