Haha true, I just haven't listened to them much so I don't feel right in saying I hate them when I've barely spent time with them. I just didn't like what I heard at all and never went back to them

I get it. It's objectively not a terrible album on it's own merits but it's a terrible album compared to even the Eternal Return. Considering Undoing Ruin is one of my favorite albums ever, I feel okay what I said in my last post in this thread.

Yeah the decline is so noticeable. The way you feel about undoing ruin is how I feel about deliver us, though those two are clearly on the same level. But yeah, the new singles are extremely promising. Love when a band is able to sound reinvigorated again after dropping off like that

    Jalen Ramsey is the GOAT

hoping Born Of Osiris pulls out a good album with The Eternal Reign because this is my first preorder lmao

Lo-fi, black metal duo from Rhode Island. They put out a split with The Body a couple years ago, and I've dug their sound ever since. It's so raw, grimy. I love it.

I can imagine! Both of the full lengths are sick, but Worms of Dirt has that "sounds like it was recorded in the earth's core" quality to it

I don't know why I like this band so much. Generally not what I look for in metal but this is good

Thy Art Is Murder has always had something that sets them apart from the rest of the pack in the deathcore scene. So glad CJ is back.

There was nothing about Thy Art's live show when I saw them open for Parkway Drive that made them seem like anything more than a standard rate deathcore band. Honestly the only 2 deathcore sets that I've seen that impressed me were All Shall Perish at Mayhem 2011 and The Red Chord at NEMF 2015

Thy Art Is Murder has a drive and general attitude about them that is more applicable to a straight death metal band than anything. They're basically deathcore written with a death metal mindset that plays breakdowns sometimes. Which isn't exactly unheard of for death metal bands either - breakdowns absolutely existed and were used in death metal bands before the word "deathcore" even existed. Dying Fetus does plenty of "chugging", for just one example.

Speaking of Dying Fetus, hyped as fuck for whatever they have in the works at the moment.

spinning the first two maudlin of the Well records - fucking amazing

his use of dissonance with winds in some of the songs (e.g. October's Sobbing) was and continues to be unique

everyone get to those records if you haven't - they're on a league of their own

Cannot wait for the new Power Trip. Gonna grab their record when they play here next month, in almost exactly one month. Gonna be so sick. Power Trip, Iron Reagan and Concealed Blade (hc band out of Pittsburgh who just dropped a killer debut LP)

Holy War definitely had some songs that felt much more straight death metal than deathcore. The title track still gets me hyped

My friend showed my Thy Art the other day - not bad, some parts sort of sounded like Deftones. Not something I think I'd regularly listen to

The issue is I've also never enjoyed straight death metal much. Bands that I love that play death metal usually incorporate other genres too, like Gojira and Behemoth. Or melodeath bands like TBDM and Amon Amarth.

I was into some deathcore for a bit but never went beyond Suicide Silence, All Shall Perish, and whitechapel.

Just checked out Sepultras new album. I think it's the best they've sounded post-Cavalera. Its good to hear them pulling it off again, as Roots and Chaos AD were perfect albums for the genre and got me into a lot of this stuff.
