Dug this a lot. The track reminded me a lot of old Gojira with some Between the Buried and Me esque parts in the middle before the clean break.

I've been asleep. What's the best starting point for Suffocation?

 

Effigy of the Forgotten or Pierce From Within. Both are essential 90s death metal.

Ditto. They pioneered the brutal death metal scene. I didn't really get into their stuff early on, maybe I'll give them another go

They had a best of album in 2008 not a bad place to get your feet wet. That said ...Of the dark light is solid

 

This may be an ignorant question, but are there black metal bands (or blackgaze, but I don't think that's what I'm looking for) that have crisp and clear sounding production? I was listening to that new Lorna Shore song, and the first minute or so was very much my style but it got way too deathcore for me after that. So something that sounds like deathcore minus the pig squeals, overdrumming, and breakdowns, lol.

 

Deathcore and Blackgaze aren’t really interchangeable and are very much their own things. Blackgaze acts tend to have better production in general compared to traditional Black Metal but there are always exceptions and I think that’s going away for the most part. What bands have you checked out besides Lorna Shore?

Also, your description of Deathcore is pretty much just that, lol.

 

Yeah I'm not interested in deathcore like stuff at all, I just saw people hyping that song up and thought the album art was cool, but that's definitely not what I'm looking for. If it helps, I've never listened to Wolves in the Throne Room before and just listened to their new song and that was pretty close to what I was looking for. That was really cool.

 

I would definitely go through their discography (which is fantastic by the way). Depending upon what streaming service you have just check the recommended artists and you will find something you enjoy for sure!
