  1. Contrary to what I expected, the reaction from the usual places seems much worse than it was for The Here And Now. It doesn't help that, with this new sound, they're immediately being compared to BMTH and all those other metalcore gone alt metal/rock bands that went in a somewhat similar direction in the last five or six years. I do think it's unfair to lump them with that crop, but eh. I still like the record, but I definitely agree with the consensus that it's too long and tends to be samey.

It sounds exactly like any other metalcore goes radio metal album.

Lots of strings, choirs, "epic" chorus, quiet verse, big breakdown at the end that sounds like every breakdown you've heard in 2012.

Yeah I kind of wish that if they wanted to incorporate that sound into their discography, why not do an album that’s 50/50 of the progressive metal they’re amazing at with the best of this new sound instead of 14 tracks of the same stuff.

I haven’t heard it yet but i imagine it’s the first new songs without Alex. In that case, he must have taken his beloved metalcore with him, lol.

if you dig that song their last lp might be worth a shot. this one seems like an extension of that sound imo

Doom / sludge / stoner split from Dust Lord and Bog Wizard (which, coincidentally enough, were also the names of my weed dealers in college):

Brand of Sacrifice are one of the few deathcore acts these days that consistently rip my face right the fuck off every time I hear them. There's just something about them that is STUPID gnarly.
