Ocean Machine is a classic. I'm not even really a huge fan but that album is amazing.

 

Also I'm getting new headphones tomorrow for my birthday. Which metal album should I listen to first? After the obligatory Rage Against The Machine self titled sound check, that is

 

Jealous. I've had the same headphones for the past 5-6 years. Amazed they still work, though they are pretty good.

Anything from early Iron Maiden to make sure you're getting that proper bass fidelity would be my suggestion.

 

Oh I have the urge to listen to Power Trip and Eternal Champion, I'll add them to the queue

Giving the new Trivium album a listen. It's solid, not as impressive as the last one but I like the Ascendancy meets In Waves vibes I get from most of it. They've found a nice groove these last few years, but I do think some experimentation will be welcomed next.

 

However, some china cymbal hits sound weird, like they make the sound tremble. I've never had this case with any other record yet. Probably need to do some EQ'ing with my headphones.

I also just realized newer Trivium is basically later In Flames but make it good, so that's probably the reason I'm still into them at this point.

 

I hadn't really listened to Trivium in a decade or more, but I caught them live last year and checked out their last record and it was pretty solid. May have to give the new one a spin.

 

anyone checking out the new I Am Abomination? Surprised so far, it's pretty good.

 

Update: new Ulcerate on the new headphones sounds incredible. The atmosphere on that album is incredible.

 

New Ulcerate bops hard. Those dissonant melodies work so, so well.

not surprised this riffs harder than just about anything

 

The drumming is also crazy

 

catching up on some recent black metal releases and damn there's some real good stuff I missed
