Are we truly surprised by an ABR? At this point in their career you either like them or you don’t. Pringle’s Metal.

    I Want To Be There

I Want To Be There is one of my favorite albums from last year. You have to listen to Circle Of Veins, released early 2019 :

Eh, I have a soft spot for Thrill Seeker, and Messengers is pretty good too, but everything else has been the same thing over and over again.

ABR definitely has a template for everything they’ve put out since 2009

Checked out the new ABR. It's good for them and they incorporated more melody than they ever have before which is SOMETHING but it is still standard fair for them. If you like their output, then this record will keep you entertained.

    yeah good okay Prestigious

eh I think they were pretty great, probably the best metalcore band in the scene early on. Thrill Seeker was great and Messengers was admittedly more of the same - just a little tighter and way more breakdowns. I think Constellations was their true peak as far as a consistently great album.

Then Leveler came about and that's when they tried to incorporate the weird stylistic changes, like the salsa part in "Internal Cannon", clean singing in "Salt & Light", and basically all of "Carpe Diem." It was a nice change of pace even it wasn't implemented the best way. They only got weirder with it in later releases, with polka sections ("Treatment" on Rescue & Restore) and western-themed breaks. After that point it became a gimmick.

And that's where they are now, and have been since Leveler, so since 2011. A solid band with cool breakdowns in weird time signatures with random stylistic breaks here and there. Problem is, it's really all they do. And metalcore (at least the style that they champion) has long since been a mostly dead genre, so unless they completely change styles or do something drastic, they'll basically be the same band they've been for 9-ish years.

Honestly, they are very smart and make a good living at what they do. So why fix what’s not broken? They do a headliner and then they open for a bigger band. It seems to work for them and they seem happy doing it.

I’m not here to question any of their business decisions aside from why the fuck Jake would guest on an As I Lay Dying tune

More hard rock than metal, but if anyone needs some fun driving music:

I'm a sucker for this kind of unapologetic throwback hard rock early 80s NWOBHM worship stuff. Good rec. Vocalist sounds a lot like the dude from Cauldron.

Doom EP was my intro to heavier stuff. I remember not liking genesis and ruination, felt like they were trying to push their boundaries and it just didn't gel well. But then demonacracy and sun eater just worked.

  22. Alright, almost done with my run through Ulcerate's discography and damn this band rips my fucking face off. I can't wait to hear the new album.

Started listening to Opeth... and I loved their debut more than Morningrise. I might be in the minority.

Sweven's album rules, there are so many cool switch ups and key changes, yet it never feels tacked on or ruins the flow. I'll definitely revisit it a ton in the following months.

Glad people are digging Ulcerate. They are the death metal version of Deathspell Omega but without the sketch.
