I have to say that after repeat listens it’s growing on me quite a bit and I think it stands as one of the best albums in their discography. It’s good to see them evolving.

Acacia strain is one of those bands where if one of their songs come on at the right time, it can make my whole day better

And by one of their songs I'm specifically referring to skynet

Fucking shame. I miss that band too, they had a cool thing going.

The Acacia Strain is easily one of the best deathcore bands ever, they perfected the formula for brutal riffs and breakdowns imo. Absolutely perfect gym/lifting music too.

I haven't really given them a good listen since high school (loved some songs from 3750 and The Dead Walk) but that new EP is cool, didn't realize they had a post-metal thing going

I forgot Black Breath was a local band. A coworker of mine is the drummer in another Seattle band and I asked her if she'd heard about the news. She said it was felt pretty hard around the metal community. I didn't even realize Elijah worked at a barcade and music store that I've frequented over the years. Crazy small world. RIP

    My finalized list:

    1. Obsequiae - Palms of Sorrowed Kings
    2. Hath - Of Rot and Ruin
    3. Blood Incantation - Hidden History of the Human Race
    4. Smoulder - Times of Obscene Evil and Wild Daring
    5. Nile - Vile Nilotic Rites
    6. Wormwitch - Heaven That Dwells Within
    7. Magic Circle - Departed Souls
    8. Vehemence - Par le Sang Verse
    9. The Great Old Ones - Cosmicism
    10. Serpent Column - Mirror in Darkness

Also there's another thread on the MA forums that polled the users and here are the results. 140 ballots, 572 unique albums, and the list is 227 albums long, which is every album that had at least two votes:

I'll be going through some of the albums on that list^^ that I didn't spend enough time with. So far I've listened to the Atlantean Kodex and Misþyrming albums.

This was a great year for trad in general with Smoulder, Tanith, Crypt Sermon, etc and I preferred most of them to the Atlantean Kodex album. I can get into epic doom but I just wasn't as into Course of Empire as a few others.

I think the Misþyrming album safely solidifies them as my 2nd favorite Icelandic black metal band behind Zhrine. I love those vocals.

Shit. It's 2020 now, and I still can't be bothered to put together a best of list for 2019.

I still have like 100 albums on my phone to listen to, and that's before I dive into any best of lists - This year I'm really going to try to focus on listening to less stuff but spending more time with the stuff that grabs me.

Same. If I like something on first listen I’m going to really take the time to enjoy it.

Exactly. and I'm not gonna force myself to listen to every dumb album on KL that has a genre tag I like. I spent way too much time listening to stuff I forgot immediately and only got to spin stuff like Blood Incantation, Never Ending Game, Tomb Mold, Division of Mind, Envision, etc... like twice each (which would all probably make my EOTY lists if I really got to dive into them)

It's basically been the same for me combined with the fact that I haven't been in the office as much recently due to the newborn...just looking at that list Chris posted reminds me of how 2019 is the probably the first year in a while where I feel like I'm missing a decent chunk of the year's releases.

I mean, I was SOOOOOO hype for the Creeping Death record and it rules, but I've listened to it, maaaybe 5 times. Fuming Mouth too. Lots of good shit this year, but I really regret not letting some of it simmer more.
