St. Anger is the greatest album ever when compared to Lulu, at least.

 

Honestly, there are some guitar tones on it I LOVE, too that are the baby getting thrown out with the production's rancid bathwater.

 

It was sick. Apparently, SikTh had never done shows in the US, which I didn't know, so it was cool to catch them. Before they became active again recently, I never thought I'd get to see them live.

Periphery were great. Played tight always, and Spencer was actually super on point. I've seen myself and heard from others about his voice coming and going during tours, but he sounded great. The guitarists Misha and Mark have really fun on-stage chemistry. It was actually impressive to see them being comical while simultaneously playing songs as technical as theirs are. And of course, Matt Halpern is probably my favorite drummer today, so I always love seeing him play.

This was the only clip I really saved.

I'm definitely not well versed in sub-genres, but I'd call Skeletonwitch "blackened-thrash"

It's not bad at all, really. There are some really solid riffs on that album, but the songs just go on for way too long and are way too repetitive. Combine that with Lars' pie pan drums and the fact that they were just coming off of Load/Reload (which were severely maligned) and you get a bunch of people saying it's a terrible album.

 

This sounds like an intriguing description. I have some listening to do this evening after my run and workout.

 

Yeah this Vektor record is phenomenal, might displace Obscura as favorite Metal release of this year.

 

The only irredeemable song on St. Anger is "My World", which is terrible.

Load is so frustrating. It has some of the best songs of their career. And then some of the only pure dead weight filler in their catalog.

 

Seeing Periphery next Monday; pretty stoked

 

Interesting I'm down with that. Blackened thrash, blackened death, and blackened doom/sludge are the closest I get to any black metal.

 

Isn't it goddamn ridiculous? So good. Those two albums are definitely in my top 5 for metal this year.

 

This is really good.

 

I'd like the album alright if the songs weren't overly-long and the drums didn't sound like death's asshole. There's a lot of cool riffs peppered throughout that record but the production, arrangement, etc just drags it all down.

 

I saw Oh, Sleeper the other night. Guys still put on an insane show.

Atheist getting higher marks than death! Blasphemy.

Interesting that bands like napalm death and terrorizwe end up on the lower end of your scores. Those are two of my favorite metal acts but I can definitely see why they can end up where they are.

 

Thanks for reading. I feel like Megadeth is hard to get into because of Dave's obnoxious vox. He does so many weird gimmicky things, it can be downright cringy at times. Also he's kind of a shitty person lol

Atheist just blew me away immediately. Piece of Time and Unquestionable Presence are insane for being released in '90 and '91 respectively. Death obviously has a much more solid and wide-ranging discography. I've since listened to their other stuff and I think I like Leprosy more than any of their other albums. Chuck's voice is just so unique...there's nothing else quite like it (from what I've heard).

Perhaps I need to check out some more modern grind bands. Apex Predator seemed much easier to digest when I gave it a very brief sampling several months ago. It's not fair to give up on a whole genre based on 2-3 albums from the 80s.

 

I'm going to just assume you meant to rate Master of Reality as an 11/10 album. Haha. Interesting list though.
