Love that Greyhaven record but do they sound like Opeth? I never really listened to Opeth before but I always expected something completely different.

They have progressive metal parts and rock parts. I wouldn’t say they’re a direct match to opeth though.

I like them, but more so for their ETID influence.

Maybe check out Ihsahn? It's the dude from Emperor's solo project.

Here are a few band/album suggestions that are all over the place and a bit progressive because I can't sleep:

    Isis (the band)
    Khemmis
    Woods of Ypres
    Enslaved
    Black Crown Initiate
    Dodheimsgard
    Cynic
    Astronoid
    Horse the band
Between the Buried and Me's first four albums
    Mastodon's Leviathan and Blood Mountain

I definitely hear a lot of ETID/Dillinger parts, but I am genuinely surprised at their song structuring and their drummer/guitarist's abilities to bounce off one another. Amazing when you get 4-5 people in the same room who are all on the same page about what they want to sound like. Feel like this band could blow up big with the right label.

Hatebreed KILLED last night. As always.

I know some of their fans are kinda bro-y Affliction shirted Monster drinkers, but the band has proven themselves time and time again.

25 years in and they still seem like a young energetic band. Jasta is such a great frontman.

I'll stop gushing. Hatebreed just rules. That's all.

I get annoyed by some who bypass Hatebreed as overrated or dated.

Their influence spans from Hardcore straight through to Metal. Love me some Architects for instance, but that "Blegh" shit Sam always does can 100% be credited to Hatebreed. (that's just one example off the top of my head)

Anyone who would ever lump Hatebreed in with the Affliction-bro crowd that follows 5FDP and that shit needs to choke on one. Not at all saying that's you, just those who would do that.

And yes, Hatebreed is sick as. Perseverance was my introduction to hardcore.

Also, END (the Counterparts/Fit For An Autopsy/Shai Hulud/Reign Supreme/Misery Signals supergroup) is writing an album.

    Fuck yes.

I'm 100% with you. Hatebreed shouldn't be lumped into that crowd at all. They are about as true to their roots as possible while still edging the mainstream. Regardless, I love them and Perseverance was probably my intro to hardcore too. Definitely the record that made me dive into the genre full force.

Today I just put Ripper on Spotify, played their artist radio, and proceeded to get slaughtered by fucking waves of death/thrash. Highlights include:

Preach. I've always seen Ivan Moody from 5FDP as a kind of "dark timeline/anti-Jamey Jasta"; like a failed clone of him who pulls all the moves but with none of the humility and integrity Jasta has. To be honest, the initial superficial resemblance is kind of what drew me to 5FDP's first album when I was 14 and impressionable.

But fuck man how awesome is Perseverance. I regularly spin that along with the first Terror album and a couple of Full Blown Chaos albums.
