Don't have time to post a bunch of stuff today but since we were talking about black/thrash the other day, for THRASH METAL THVRSDAY I bring back one of my favorite 2016 releases:

  3. Soilwork's new single is pretty good. Nothing too different from the previous two albums but glad to know they're still going strong after all these years.

This is a thing of pure unadulterated hatred towards mankind, and I am reveling in its glory.

What does everyone think of Avenged Sevenfolds last album? Or what’s the general consensus of the band in here in general?

I personally think they have reached their peak and they will continue to churn out good arena rock records but they aren’t reinventing the wheel.

  7. One of those rare bands where I only like a small portion of their discography. Their early stuff isn't for me and City Of Evil has always been too cheesy metal-y even at the time. However, I was a huge fan of the Self-TItled, then gave the following material a hard pass again. I loved the last album as it felt like a return to the Self-Titled sound in some parts. Overall, they're strong songwriters and I looked up to the guitarists as a teen, while the weak point is obviously Mr. Shadows. He works with the limitation of his vocals though.

Sound the Seventh Trumpet and Waking the Fallen are two albums that got me into "more extreme" metal as a teenager, but everything they've put out since just hasn't sat as well for me. They're still a pretty talented band though (especially Syn).

Not to downplay Dying Fetus or Incantation, but Genocide Pact and Gatecreeper were so good.

Also, the vocalist from Genocide Pact said "How many sick fucks we got in here tonight?" and then the crowd cheered, and then he said "That's a lot of sick fucks." - It was the hardest I've ever laughed at stage banter.

This post is kinda all over the place. I listened to Triarchy of Lost Lovers last night by Rotting Christ and man, what an amazing album. The Varathron album from this year made me realize I haven't really looked into Hellenic black metal and I figured I'd start with the titans themselves. Really glad I did.

Also have we talked about the Black Viper album? Because we should. Siiiccck speed/heavy metal:

And shreddit had their top 7 vote this past weekend:

    7. Varathron
    8. Yob

    10. Satan

I haven't listened to Yob or Horrendous yet, I should probably get on that.

Avenged Sevenfold are a band I used to be pretty heavily into but basically the only thing I consistently give a shit about anymore is A Little Piece Of Heaven. It's one of my go-to warm-up songs when singing.

One of my closest friends loved A7X when we were in high school. I personally couldn’t stand them, but am oddly very familiar with the band’s members, discography, and history.

Benighted is one of those bands that I keep spinning and nothing ever grows on me. And I absolutely love grind/grindcore/deathgrind. I'll keep trying.

As a joke me and my friends in college would slow the riffs down and change it to like brass horns...it sounds like clown music it's hilarious.

A7X got me into metal and I was obsessed with their first four albums when I was younger. I still love WTF and COE but eh on the rest now besides the stage which is actually really good

I was obsessed with Avenged as a teen, got no interest in them now though. Still respect them for being a big part of my teenage years

I get that - that's how I felt about Cattle Decapitation until I listened to The Anthropocene Extinction. But this Benighted EP is as good as their last album - maybe even a little better - and maybe this one will change your mind.

Honestly I can't stand them - I think their music is the definition of generic radio 'heavy' music. But I'm not going to lie about the impact they had on me getting into metal. City Of Evil (along with Vol. 3 by Slipknot) was the album that transitioned me from OG pop punk and nu metal to actual heavy music; without it, I wouldn't have checked out Atreyu or Killswitch Engage, and never would've got into Lamb Of God, and then onto death metal/deathcore, and so on. So while I can't stand A7X now (and I really hated their last one, to be clear) I will always have respect for them for that point in time where they changed everything for me.

I liked it a lot. It's like the latest Architects song - absolutely nothing new and exactly what you expect from a new song by them, but absolutely awesome and great for a listen. Without In Flames making any good new music (and I never really got into Dark Tranquility at all) Soilwork are my go-tos for melodic modern metal that doesn't suck... them or Killswitch Engage haha.

I’m going to try to get into this genre again. I’m interested in the experimental/progressive stuff and am adding the albums on the OP to my phone. Great idea.
