Loudwire: Best Metal Song of Each Year Since 1970

 

definitely gets worse towards the bottom but it's not a bad list overall.

 

It gets pretty bad in the mid-2000's. Way too many Ghost songs (and I like Ghost).

 

It's almost like there are no other metal bands that exist post-2010 to them. And lol @ Code Orange being No. 1 in 2017 over Pallbearer.

 

This album just clicked for me, and I can see why so many people heralded it as one of the best of 2017.

Side note, old The Ruins of Beverast is heavy as a goddamn dump truck being pushed off of a cliff.

I saw them live at MDF back in May, and they clicked for me as a band then. Surtur Barbaar Maritime came up on a shuffle listen recently, and I was even further blown away. Considering they're a one man project in studio - it's even more impressive.

 

The word "Beverast" just makes me think of:

Naw, listen to both. I will. I got nothing against Behemoth, just never really gave them a shot.

 

The singles from the Behemoth album hadn’t really impressed me but I’ll check out eventually

 

I'm just on the down and outs with Behemoth because Nergal has been...a bit of an edgelord with his public persona recently to put it mildly. I'm just not sure I want to put the time and the effort to give their latest a listen if it's going to be mediocre.

- Belated post, but god damn. New Anaal Nathrakh is everything I could have hoped for. So much better than The Whole of the Law.

- Has anyone else heard the debut album from Daddy-Rock? It's one of Jared Dines's projects that he plays lead guitar on and it is seriously some of the most delightful cheese you'll hear all week.

- New Archgoat is every bit as evil as one could hope for.

- No one else will like this one probably but........ The new Ice Nine Kills record? It's fucking incredible.

 

As a long time Behemoth fan, I very excitedly sat down and listened to I Loved You At Your Darkest... And holy fucking shit, it's incredible! It's my favourite release of their since Evangelion (which is what got me into them) and the songs are just so amazing. "Bartzabel" has been stuck in my head for the last two days and I agree with Nergal when he says it's a "pure Danzig" song from those vibes. "Wolves Ov Siberia" also fucking rips still, but "Ecclesia Diabolica Catholica" and "If Crucifixion Was Not Enough" are the best new songs I got from the first two listens. all in all, my contender for metal album of the year.

Never heard of “black thrash” until today when I checked out the band Deathhammer. Not bad!

Reminds me a bit of Ringworm.

 

I listened and it’s not bad.

 

I love black thrash! The Black Fast album from earlier this year is a solid entry into the genre (if not a little repetitive). I still spin the Hellripper album from last year all the time too.

 

I’m usually not a fan of INK but the fact that they REALLY embraced the horror theme and the guests they got to be on the album are amazing. My favorite by far are the odes to The Shining, JAWS and IT.
