Big day for releases!

Anaal Nathrakh, Bonehunter, Dödsrit, Horrendous, Revocation, Scorched, Vulcain...

 

Vreid, This Will Destroy You, Candy, Gouge Away, A Forest of Stars, Mirrors for Psychic Warfare, Atrament. It's a good problem to have.

Random Friday thoughts on the new releases I managed to check out today:

-The new Dodsrit album is a step up above their debut upon my first couple of listens, which is saying something because that release floored me with how good it was really quickly. The atmospherics and crusty parts are on point so it just manages to check all the boxes for me.

-I can tell the new Horrendous is going to be a bit of a grower compared to their last two releases. I can tell it's well produced and orchestrated, but this new proggier direction is taking a bit to sink in.

-The new Atrament record continues to show that Sentient Ruin is quietly becoming one of the best labels in underground metal because this is another slapper from them. They play a mix of black metal, crust, and d-beat and feature members of Necrot and Abstracter among their ranks. Pretty good stuff:

-The new Gouge Away and Candy aren't exactly metal releases, but they are both solid releases from two young hardcore bands at the top of their game. Y'all will probably like Candy a bit more because it sounds like this weird amalgamation of Hatebreed, Homewrecker, and Converge to me...so again, it checks all the boxes.

-Apparently Machine Head might be breaking up? That's surprising news to me.

 

From the sound of things, the band wanted to get away from Robb. I’m not surprised but damn, there goes one of the bigger bands in the last couple decades

 

Ugh...Harms Way van was stolen.

 

Fuck, poor dudes.

 

I went to their web store to pick up some stuff but a lot of it is sold out, which is good I guess! They said on Twitter they would restock the store soon.

 

What did you think of Revocation? I don’t ever remember them being as proggy as they are now but it works for them!

 

I don't know if this is the right thread or if this would fit more in the hardcore thread, but anyone else here like I AM? I guess you'd call them deathcore but they're a bit more raw and 'organic' sounding, for lack of a better word than a lot of other deathcore bands, and they have a bit of an old school death metal edge to them as well. If you like The Acacia Strain or No Zodiac, or even more hardcore stuff like Harms Way (also on Harms Way, hope they manage to recoup and that scumbag gets theirs) these guys should be sweet.

 

I was supposed to see Harms Way next Thursday. Really hope they're not dropping from the bill. Anyone know anything about their current tour plans?

This is sad, not sure if surprising though. I used to listen to them a lot during the mid 00's, and haven't really liked anything since The Blackening, but it bums me out that the long lasting line up from their best era is practically gone.

One of the few tech death bands from the mid to late 2000s that are still jamming

 

I hate the band name, but I recently checked out Reaping Asmodeia. Big fan of metal drummers, and theirs used to be in With Dead Hands Rising which was a band I loved when I was in high school. Pretty good stuff. Though, this music video is a bit rough to watch, just a heads up.

 

This new Anaal Nathrakh album slaps and slaps hard.

 

Funny story about that album: I was putting on some music yesterday and my son (2 and a half) came to my phone, saw that album art, and said “No, Evan want this one.”

Less than a minute into the first track he said “No. Evan no like this one. Play Daniel song” meaning Daniel Tiger.

 

NYC here I come.

 

I know I've said it before, but man this Satan record is riff city.

 

I know its a couple of weeks old now but daaaaamn that new Pig Destroyer still crushes. Easily my fav besides Phantom Limb.
