I can't get into Tesseract - they are unquestionably talented musicians, but their new age vibe doesn't rub me the right way

It might work if the verses weren't spoken in tongues and the cleans in the chorus didn't sound like they were manufactured in the studio.

    yeah good okay Prestigious

I went through a massive djent phase 4-5 years ago. Here are a few of the bands I was into:

The Contortionist have changed vocalists a few times and they sound massively different these days, which I think was a good evolution overall. Northlane and Erra on the other hand are nowhere near as good as they used to be, especially Northlane. Chris Baretta is the vocalist of Ever Forthright and Monuments, anything he touches is gold. Intervals started out instrumental, incorporated vocals on one album, and then went back to purely instrumental. I prefer it that way.

They are but they've really diversified their sound. Their new stuff is very very good. Other bands kind of get stuck but the guys progressed nicely.

    new ColdWorld is out

  12. Ya Glass Cloud were cool. Heard about them because they were formed with the singer for Sky Eats Airplane and the guitarist for The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza. Not sure whatever happened to them.

To be fair, that Parkway Drive track is only on the deluxe version of Ire, an album which still has tracks like Dying To Believe (which is headbangable as fuck), so hey.

Also oh no I actually like this bonus track.

That's fair. It's just a big shift from the Parkway Drive I remember. Admittedly, I haven't really listened to their last couple of albums so hearing a song like that from them was a bit of a shock.

PWD has certainly gotten more "radio-friendly" but I thought IRE had some decent songs on it. That being said, Killing With a Smile is still their best.

Every station here is afraid to play anything with unclean vocals in it, so I don't know what radio friendly means anymore. IRE had kind of a nu-metal feel to it, for sure. I enjoy the record for what it is, though.

I could not get into Ire at all. First time I heard anything from it was when "Vice Grip" was on the radio at work and I thought it was Five Finger Death Punch or something.

The only reason I ever got into Metalcore was because it was kind of a continuation of the late 90s Groove Metal and Nu Metal scenes. So I'm all about bands like Parkway leaning in a more Hard Rock direction.

I will admit some bands make the transition better than others. PWD and Upon A Burning Body do it well, while Atreyu and All That Remains fell flat on their faces when they changed.
