I've wanted to get into Neurosis, but have no idea where to start.

Hard to go wrong, but Given to the Rising is the one that I started with so I'm gonna rec that one.

 

I'm a sucker for that drifty catchy stuff. Reminds me of that band Constants a little. I guess Spotlights will be opening for Deftones this summer. Very cool

 

Listening to this now. I've been meaning to get around to it since I saw Riley from Thrice recommend it on his blog a couple times, so I'm excited.

 

Sleep just announced they're playing in Orlando July 26th to benefit the families of the Pulse shooting victims. I immediately bought a ticket.

 

Someone dressed up as a Weedian at a Sleep show, thats so awesome.

 

I listened to Dopesmoker for the first time on a long night drive weeks ago. Shit was tight

 

I went to Kuma's (metal themed restaurant) Indianapolis location for the first time the other day and Dopesmoker was playing in full on the radio. It was excellent haha.

 

Need to revisit Dopesmoker. Album puts me in a trance

Like, all of that started because some music writer said the last song on the new record is a cover when it's just the last section of it?

 

Jones was awesome when I saw them live. Loved his enthusiasm and just seeming like a maniac. And constantly asking people to slam like he's Onyx.

I never read anything other than album reviews and articles from the black Dahlia singer. The metal scene as a whole is filled to the brim with asshloles, whether it be the metalsucks guys or the guys they claim nails to be

Also, if the tweets at the bottom are from the official nails Twitter, it does prove some parts of the article right. Sexist language is not OK

 

Yeah, I feel like Metalsucks and other metal "news" sites are just writers trying to start pissing matches over nothing. Trevor Strnad's columns are always kind of cool, though. Dude's an encyclopedia.

 

literally the only salvageable part of metalsucks are the Trevor Strnad columns, ha. Everything else is embarrassing. And on a note related to that article, I cannot for the life of me read Chuck Klosterman without rolling my eyes so hard it gives me a headache.

 

I just remember them writing a slam piece on Brandan from Bleeding Through for announcing a reunion show that was a benefit for The Ghost Inside. Like, how much of a dick can you be?

 

yeah, they're always picking fights and dogging on people unnecessarily. they're basically the TMZ of metal journalism.

 

I'm on a serious djent roll - recommend me the heaviest djent you can... stuff like Meshuggah, Vildhjarta, Uneven Structures, Glass Cloud...

for some reason I'm not into the proggy, lighter side with stuff like Periphery or Animals As Leaders

 

It's amazing...like you'd think he's just googling shit but no he'll find some obscure brutal tech death out of the Philippines that no one else has ever heard of. And his RIYL are always spot on.

Also, I haven't been able to stop listening to Nails (well...in between the blink album lol).

 

Yeah, I never even bother with MetalSucks based on all the shit that comes out of it. I even read Trevor Strnad's columns on MetalInjection anyhow - though that place can be pretty lame at times as well.

Also, seconding the opinion that the man is incredible for recommendations - anytime I need something new I just go digging through his old columns and I'm currently anxiously awaiting this month's new one, lol.
