Man, that new Kvelertak album. I don't know how I'm not tired of their blackened party metal thing yet, but they keep finding ways to keep it fresh.

    yeah good okay Prestigious

Agoraphobic Nosebleed's new Ep from this year is pretty good, or Napalm Death's album from last year

    Jalen Ramsey is the GOAT

This band just played their first show, and just released their first EP. Really cool dudes and they really put on a great show!

It leaked. I have the album pre-ordered so I have no shame in listening early.

I personally started with deathgrind and just shifted more and more into grindcore over time. Misery Index is a great starting point. Rotten Sound also put out an awesome grindcore record earlier this yeah with a lot of death metal influence. Pig Destroyer is also a good starting point, IMO.

Sidenote, I'm seeing Sunn O))) tonight. Much love to this thread if I die from overexposure to noise pollution while at the show.

Agoraphobic's new EP is awesome, but it's not representative of the rest of their discography. It's much more of a doom record than a grind record. Agorapocalypse Now is probably a much better representation of their discography.

    Pig Destroyer - Phantom Limb
Napalm Death - Apex Predator/Easy Meat
Misery Index - The Killing Gods
    Rotten Sound - Cursed
    Nasum - Helvete
    Agoraphobic Nosebleed - Aogorapocalypse

just a few essentials off the top of my head. really it's hard to go wrong with any of those bands, but I tried to pick the most accessible ones from their respective discographies. Accessible being a pretty relative term here, hah.

Is it heresy to say that Apex Predator is Napalm Death's best album?

    mmm...

I think there's exactly zero guys in common between those two record, basically a completely different band (which is kind of cool, actually...)

    so

no need to compare both albums, really

    but if we must

SCUM is a landmark, a document... crust taken to the extreme and signalling a particular moment (shift?) in music (and politics), which also happens to be sick AF - it also includes Justin Broadrick (Godflesh, jesu, etc.), which is kind of a music hero of mine, but yeah...

Apex Predator is a fucking lit album, no questions asked - but let's not pretend it's more than that

best or most important ND album? no way

someone's favorite? (yours) sure, why not - it's sick

Thanks for all the recommendations, guys. I'm gonna check out Misery Index and Napalm Death first and work my way from there.

I don't know if Cattle Decap fall under the grindcore umbrella, but their last album is my favorite extreme metal release in recent memory.

@swboyd @CellarGhosts Thanks for the Misery Signals rec. Listened to about 3/4 of The Killing Gods last night and loved it. Is the rest of their discography as good?

Does anybody here like Traitors? Personally I think they're an incredible band. Easily the best downtempo band out there right now that I've heard.

Personally, Traitors and Heirs to Thievery are my favorite albums by them. They just hit home a little harder than The Killing Gods. Retaliate and Discordia are solid, but they aren't as slick as their later stuff in terms of both composition and production. I'd continue working back in time chronologically with their albums and just see what you like!

This band does not get enough love, my god. Fantastic tech/melo-death based out of Tennessee with badass-as-fuck lyrical themes and this album is incredible. Give it a listen.

Howard Theatre? That'll be interesting. They played a 250 cap venue in Baltimore last December and it sold out in less than an hour, haha.
