Another Dark Descent debut that I'm hyped for. FFO Dead Congregation, Incantation (basically my favorite stuff)

 

I was bummed I missed them last year with Darkest Hour. I wasn't even gonna go to the show, but at the last minute decided to, but unfortunately missed all of the openers, all of whom I wanted to see (Ringworm, Tombs and Rivers of Nihil)

 

Vein is a chaotic hardcore band that brings you back to the days of myspace screamo and 90s mathcore. I dig it a lot. Hardcore kids also go apeshit in trying to get their merch:

Queensway is a solid metallic hardcore band, IIRC. I listened to them a few times, but I can't remember too much about how they sound at the moment since they were just a random bandcamp listen like a year ago:

 

I love that Queensway EP. Vox are a little over the top but I cannot deny the riffs.

I'm loving the hooded menace, these solos are pristine. The sound in general, love that it's not overly "dirty" sounding that some deathdoom suffers from. They do this awesome thing where the riffs can sound really happy and switch to heavy a second later. Or have a heavy rhythm and a bright sounding solo over it for just a few seconds. I love it.

Reaallllly disappointed in Mammoth Grinder. I think I put too much hype on it. The issue with that brand of deathgrind whatever is the riffs, while fun, can get stale...you need some creativity on the drumming to compensate from time to time. After literally one song I can predict exactly where the riffing and drumming is gonna go and I really shouldn't be able to do that. Just throw in a double bass heavy fill or something! I'll be listening to it a few more times but after a first pass I can't give it more than like a 2/5 or something. That's just me tho.

 

speaking of darkest hour, they're coming by with Whores, Extinction AD, and Greywalker. I don't know any of the supporting acts, any thoughts on them fellas?

I don't even know if I want to go...looks like DH doesn't play sound the surrender live anymore, I would go for that song alone haha.

 

Extinction AD I'm pretty sure has one of the guitarists of This Is Hell

 

How's the tribulation album?

 

This is a beautiful album.

 

I was kinda lukewarm on it but I only listened through once.

Yeah both the Agrimonia and Tribulation albums are great

 

early contender for metal AOTY 2018, at the very least an easy top 10 slot.

 

Guess I'll give it another spin.

Certified false band, no trve metal band would ever win a Grammy. They need to leave The Hall.

I don't know why but I could've sworn Mastodon had won a Grammy in the past? Guess that was in the Berenstein bears timeline. Anyway, very cool. Super proud of them and it's well deserved, "Emperor of Sand" ended up being my #2 metal album of 2017.

 

I thought they had too but alas
