Really digging the new Trivium, drums are fucking killer on this.

 

Also, I’ll echo on symphonic and power metal being cornball, lame shit. The musicianship is great but my god is that stuff a slog to sit through. Plus, they arguably have not only some of the worst fans in metal but music in general. I’d say they are the worst fan base in metal but that slot is permantly owned by black metal purists.

 

The worst sub genre metal fans contest is a tight race.

 

in my experience, the worst metal fans are the ones on chorus.fm.

in all seriousness, most power metal fans are just harmless goofballs in my experience. they might be a bit elitist within the confines of music, but they're usually just goobers. i will agree though on one thing - black metal purists are usually gigantic jagaloons.

 

I dunno, some of the most insufferable music snobs I've ever met were power/symphonic metal fanatics.

Seconding the power metal fans being goofballs. Honestly they strike me as the most harmless metal fanbase more than anything else, tell you the truth.

Seriously, the trve kvlt nonsense is far far worse in my eyes. Like personally, I'm a non white metal fan so I always get the vibe of not fitting in, so when fans further ostracize others it drives me mad.

 

I always faked liking tool and a perfect circle. In reality I hated it

Honestly I never got the Tool fan stigma. I knew a couple kids in HS that wore Tool shirts, but they were totally normal and not overbearing.

Approximately 75% of the people at Boston Calling were wearing Tool shirts, though, and that was a lot even if they were playing

 

Yeah I've never met these obnoxious Tool fans (other than myself) everyone seems to go on about. I wonder if it's just one of those easy to repeat stereotypes because it's so believable.

 

They seem to exist online for the most part

 

It just always seems like anyone who likes Tool, LOVES Tool.

I mean, I like them, but they're far from my favorite band.

 

what power metal fans you around? Alll the ones i've been around and know are nice and nerdy people. They really into the music but there not assholes about it. I like a lot of power and symphonic metal though

 

Yeah most power metal fans I know are huge music theory nerds and are usually pretty skilled musicians themselves

As for non-Converge, non-Cannibal Corpse metal releases today that are excellent:

I will always jock this band when I get a chance. And the juxtaposition between their name and their sound is incredibly amusing to me. Japanese sludge-grinders FFO Primitive Man, Full of Hell, Weekend Nachos.

Nepalese by way of NYC self-stylized "immigrindcore" with two vocalists, two guitarists, and two drummers.
