The boys need to switch the setlist up a bit. Even at the tiny Nesham Creek show they stuck to basically the same setlist as the last few times I've seen them. Gimmie Times Tables or Sunday Morning!

 

That setlist is different than what they've been playing though

Lesson In Abuse, Charlies Army and Straight To Hell !

 

Was cool to see Straight to Hell. Still not a fan of Charlie's Army (Did they not play that at the April show?), but I fucking loved Thick As Thieves live.

 

Yeah they haven't played Charlies Army much, I did get Straight to Hell and Lesson at the holiday show and it was awesome

The only song they definitely need to swap out is Nice Things

I'm all for Sunday Morning and Time Tables though

 

I’d love to hear Frank and Menzingers do a cover each other’s song kinda thing to promote the tour. Seems like a nice match to tour with.

 

Happy one year to this amazing album

 

They played the shakes during their encore last night and it was bloody great

 

So excited for tonight

 

Listened yesterday and is still a 10/10 incredible hard hitting album

 

I’d fucking love that idea. I could see the Menzingers doing a great version of “Try This at Home”. Frank could do “Gates”.

 

Just ripped Your Wild Years while in Boston to commemorate this occasion. Had my buddy play piano as I played guitar. It was lit

 

Interesting outlook.

 

I mean, what I’m saying is, I like all 4 of these bands. I will go to this tour. But I’m also bummed that this scene isn’t more inclusive to women and non-dudes. It also (I think, in my experience at least) leads to a more bro-y atmosphere at the show itself.

 

Lucero has never done much for me, but Frank and The Menzingers are both Top 10 bands for me, and I like Homeless Gospel Choir. Already got my tickets for Orlando, and I’m super pumped even though it’s still 5 months away. Can. Not. Wait.

 

My girlfriend isn’t really into the menzingners (we went to thr Philly show last March) but I showed her a bunch of FT live clips yesterday and she said, “wow this guy’s great! I’d totally see him”

 

So I saw these guys in London at the Shepherds Bush Empire (who seemed terribly organised) on Saturday night (last night), and holy fuck was it great. How the hell did they put on BOTH of my favourite live sets this year?

Cayetana opened and seemed to visibly win people over which was great. PUP then came on and the room went crazy. Saw some stage dives and the pit was actually mad, I got my jaw knocked in it and had to "pop"it back in place but it was all good fun.

Then The Menzingers came on and it was insane. Tellin' Lies into Good Things as an opening 1-2 was amazing, and their set fantastic. Only gripe is no Where Your Heartache Exists. Had a great time and my friends know Your Wild Years as my favourite, and the moment the "A LITTLE IRISH IN YOUR BLOOD" kicks in that second time, all four of my friends without speaking just lifted me by a limb each and made me crowd surf.

Honestly, fantastic night.

 

Yeah they were awesome in manchester too. Every time I expected a pause they just went straight into the next song, it was flat out. PUP was fucking incredible too. So happy I finally managed to make it off the rock to go see both of them

 

Do I buy the varsity jacket they put up?

The Eagles just won and I'm drunk so I think the answer is yes

Episode 13: The Menzinger’s After the Party

 

While I do appreciate lyrical analysis this guy does, his delivery is very dry and unenthusiastic. I hate saying that because obviously he does care a lot about the bands he talks about and the music, but it's hard to tell by the way he talks about them. I don't mean it as a dig at him personally, just some constructive criticism.

 

Yeah I do wish he put a little enthusiasm in vocally, because from the content alone you can tell he really cares and knows his stuff.

 

Well he says that this is the last podcast he will be doing for a long long time while he focuses on his book. I really did enjoy his analysis of the music, though.

 

I agree completely, I wish I took more time to sit down with records and jot down notes about the themes, and try to analyze the writer's perspective. Doing it for this band must be a blast.

 

So I introduced The Menzingers to my girlfriend about a year ago and she took to them like no band I've ever introduced to her (except maybe Coheed). All she ever really listens to when she listens to music is either them or the radio, so I'm trying to put together a playlist of similar-ish bands that she might like. Any suggestions? So far I have:

Against Me!
The Gaslight Anthem/Brian Fallon
Japandroids
The Hold Steady
Frank Turner
Lucero

Also thinking about just tossing "Born to Run" on there because that's just a fun time for everyone.
