I brought my mom to a Joyce Manor show recently and she said she felt like she was "in the movie where he beats up the ex-boyfriends" (meaning Scott Pilgrim). Pretty accurate I thought.

 

Both my parents like a good bit of what I show them

My mom really likes Copeland and The 1975 specifically

 

Going back through my backlog of podcasts and listened to the encore episode on this album made me come back and listen to it even more (already have 336 scrobbles on Last.FM since it leaked lol) and this is such a great album. I love it.

 

My dad took me to see Underoath when I was a freshman in high school over 10 years ago and every once in a while I'll still catch him singing the "drowning in my sleep" lines.

 

Every now and then I catch my Dad listening to the Dookie era of Green Day. My Mom also likes Paramore's self-titled.

They don't listen to much non-Brazilian music, so that's cool.

 

I bought my Dad a Gaslight Anthem CD for Christmas every year for 3 years straight and he never listened to one of them :(

As if that section couldn't be any more poignant in my life, that's where I go to school

 

my last semester by wonder years is also about temple right?

 

They actually changed it to "Temple University" in the live video the day the album dropped

 

Tom May is the latest guest on Ray Harkins' podcast 100 Words or Less for those that are interested. It mostly deals with Tom's upbringing and early days of the band as opposed to a deep dive on the new record.

 

Just saw these guys in SF last night. Man they put on a great show.

Some quick observations -

Tom is a great performer but misses a lot of notes. ha
Greg sounds awesome when he just lets loose
Yip did a great job with vocal tracking on After the Party
Did not realize how much the drummer was doing in most of the songs. Rhythm section slayed
Only songs that missed big were Thick as Thieves and The bars. Everything else was solid and the crowd was pumped.

I went to three dates and it got a good reception.

 

i think i underrated this when it came out. still don't think it holds a candle to rented world, but greg still has an undeniable ear for melody, song structure and nostalgic storytelling

as far as tom's songs go,

 

also i fucking love the opening verse of tellin' lies so much, especially "when your new friends take a joke too literal / making you feel like the bad guy"

Tom writes really good songs, especially on this new record.

 

Two of the four Tom songs on here are total skippers for me
