I don't want a subdued pop Mars Volta. I want 38 minute psychedelic jams

    still excited though

The production is exponentially better than Noctourniquet

I don't really have a feel for TMV fans. What are some of the consensus fan favorite songs? I think mine is Goliath.

all time fav? Just De-Loused front to back, but I LOVE the first 4 records with the last two being a bit spottier

Roulette Dares, Goliath, Cassandra Gemini, Drunkship of Lanterns seem to be the big ones.

throw in day of the baphomets, Tetragrammaton, and in Absentia for me.

They are more of a full-album-listen band for me. Tough to pinpoint individual songs. Those first three records are perfect (yes I’m including Amputecture). Bedlam is great. Oct and Noct are good in varying degrees.

I'm prob weird but I'll take Drunkship, Eriatarka, and Veil from De-loused, and then like half of Bedlam's tracklist as my TMV desert island disc.

And I'm most def barred from being called a hardcore fan for putting Frances near the bottom and basically never listening through the noise noodling sections of their 15 min tracks.

god yes, a plague upon the mastering engineer for that record.

    Die rad.

Deloused front to back is most epic album ever. I enjoy the first half of Frances De Mute as well.

Bedlam is probably their craziest album and proggiest instrumentally i would say. Octa was kinda laid back for their standards. and most of Nocta except for 2 or 3 tracks was pretty dense and not very accessible but just in a diff style.

I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion for the fans, but I'm glad the title track didn't fit on Frances The Mute because it's not really all that great. 5 minutes of worthless noodling and then a pretty good song, but easily would have been the worst on the album, not really a great opener either which was the plan

Yeah but... wasn't every legit song on that record bookended by at least 5 minutes of worthless noodling too?

Haha yes. When it came out I actually made an "Edited Version" of the album that I would listen to when I didn't want to deal with all the bullshit. It turned the 77 minute album into a 64 minute album. Ironically, the 32 minute Cassandra Gemini is the only song I didn't have to cut anything from haha. Additionally I cut the 15 minute Frances the Mute single into 10 minutes.

I still have this version, but only in 160 kbps, if anyone ever wanted to give it a run

I've listned to every single Omar solo album, at least twice, so I don't need you to tell me about noodling!!!!!!

I came here to talk about how I was listening to Frances The Mute today and remembered how annoying I found those extended noodling sessions and thank God I'm not the only one who feels that way in this thread.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I can get down with some noodling, but goddamn.

I swear at least 20 full minutes of the runtime is noise. Bedlam is about the same length and I have no problem listening straight through because the noodling is... actual music that fits in the context of the song.

Like, to me the noodling starts off interesting and builds atmosphere, suspense, mood, tension, etc. but it lasts just long enough to stop being any of that and just straight into irritating. It kills my patience.

  25. sawhney[rusted]2

I'll write you into all of my songs Supporter

Bedlam is my fav for the thrill factor but I’m glad someone is calling out Amputecture. Personally think that’s their best record
