I will need time to collect my thoughts so I don’t sound like a rambling buffoon but, uh, yeah - I’m definitely on team Lighthouse

    Masterpiece

    run away with me Platinum

the biggest mystery is how Pattinson had a gaunt face but a totally jacked body
the relationship between Wake and Winslow was clearly a metaphor for every boomer/millennial working relationship, being verbally berated while being forced to do all the work
since Winslow and his predecessor had similar hallucinations I was thinking maybe environmental, then it hit me they probably got lead poisoning from that water which may have contributed
every time that siren bwong played I thought of the Run Away With Me Memes
the acting was great and Willem Dafoe is the only person who can play an ornery lighthouse keeper

Ohh, good theory; same kind of thing happened to the characters in the TV series The Terror

One thing I keep thinking is that regardless of whether it worked for you, it’s impossible to deny what a singular vision this is. So meticulously crafted, it felt very hypnotic and unlike pretty much anything else, almost was in a trance watching it and I’m struggling to find a real reference or point of comparison

Big swings like this really need to be supported/encouraged

it's kind of remarkable how this is an arthouse film through and through, yet nothing about it is pretentious. it's not beating you over the head with how cerebral it is, even though it is very much a cerebral experience in every way. it doesn't spoon-feed you nor does it talk down to you. it's accessible if you're willing to engage with it

I also laughed way more than I expected, it has this really effective almost lowbrow sense of humour that helps offset some of the bleaker stuff. Once it gets rolling I was able to understand them near perfectly, there was an almost lyrical quality to the way they spoke that was fun to get lost in for a bit

Totally agree that while it may be challenging, it does a good job of staying grounded/accessible

Just saw this in an AMC that's kind of in the middle of nowhere and it was pretty packed. Movie was fucking unreal. Couple next to me were super goddamn annoying though, every 3 minutes the lady went "what's going on with ___" and the guy would just be like "idfk" and immediately after it ended "yayyy it's over"

This is a masterpiece. I haven't seen Parasite yet which may well take the title, but this is pretty easily my movie of the year right now

I audibly laughed at Dafoe’s reaction when Pattinson said what he’d do to a rare steak

this has been living rent free in my brain for 24 hours now, there’s only been one other movie I’ve needed to see twice on a big screen but I’ve decided I’m going back for this
