It’s fine if I’m wrong. Just curious

Would you even consider this a horror movie? Didn't think it was scary at all; just really weird and brooding. The music was horror-esque, but what you saw on screen didn't really match it

As for Dafoe's character, did he intentionally want to make every new lighthouse keeper that came to the island mad? Was that his goal? Why was he so protective of not letting Winslow up to see the light? And what was the meaning of seeing the squid (octupus?) tentacles in a few scenes? Was that just a signifier than Winslow was going mad? And being only four weeks on the island, kind of weird how he went mad so quickly (I guess when you have a guy like Dafoe bossing you around, and with nowhere to go or hide, having basically only two buildings, I guess the claustrophobic nature of the small island just sped up the process)

Well it was supposed to be four weeks, but it seemed like Winslow was starting to go mad fairly quickly. By the end they could have been there an extra month or more, who knows

Seeing this at 9:30, can’t wait. Just watched The Witch for the first time last weekend and really enjoyed it.

I think we're more talking of the traditional sense, of what you consider a typical horror movie. Psychological horror/trauma for sure, but nothing truly scary or horrifying

I loved The Witch; that movie had such a vibe, a mood. It was very period-specific, with a story that wasn't quick, but wasn't slow either; it just kept building and building, until the final few scenes wrapped it up. Whereas this I felt was kind of all over the place; I just felt confused at times, trying to figure out what I was watching and what kind of mood it was going for, not sure how to react.

The part where Dafoe rushes in with the axe after he’s presumed dead startled the shit out of me. Plus the sirens creeped me out. So I would consider this horror.

I don't think the sexual tension is genuine. When they almost kiss, it was clearly a goof and they were messing around. The slow dancing/laying against eachother didn't seem "romantic" to me. They were two dudes crazy drunk isolated alone for over a month.

The laying across each other part was great, and yeah I don’t think that part in particular was sexual. Though I kiss I do think was genuine, and I couldn’t tell who pulled away first lol. It happened so fast.

Ok. The more I think about it I might love this movie. I just wish it wasn’t SO dark. Like it could’ve pulled back a little bit. Esp the last shot. Like fuck.

last show was perfect don't change a thing.

it's also based on paintings of Prometheus, which I always thought were dope

Yeah my roommate who saw this picked up on Dafoe's character in one of his speeches actually mentioning Prometheus, which I didn't pick up on

It's closer to a Lynch film than a traditional "horror" film. The part when he finally gets to the light and loses it could have been straight out of Twin Peaks

    FKA nowFace Prestigious

I had huge Lynch vibes at that scene
