Christmas quotes from my father speaking with our transgender cousin who we hadn't seen in years, pre-transition. It probably wouldn't be wrong to assume it'd be another few years before we see him again...

"DUDE, you're a dude now!"

"You used to be hot!"

"Back when you were a girl, I would have totally fucked you!"

Response: "I used to have those sweet tits but I let them go to waste"

I thankfully wasn't in the same room to see the exchange, but I commend the witty response and the ability to brush off such blatant... fuckery? I don't even know what to call it. Clearly it wasn't the first time he's endured this type of conversation - I felt awful, but mostly embarrassed, when another cousin recounted the story to me.

I'm getting married on New Years Eve and I am terrified to give my dad any platform to speak, either at the rehearsal dinner, ceremony, or reception.

 

Aside from the blatant transphobia, what's up with an uncle wanting to have sex with his nephew....

That's so awful. I'm a newly out trans man and my holiday couldn't really have gone better, so there's probably hope for humanity. Probably.

 

I have no idea. I mean, he obviously found him attractive as a "niece," but that doesn't make it any less sketchy. My dad has always been very comfortable throwing out sexual comments, including being willing to acknowledge relatives being attractive without feeling weird about it, but this was so obviously over the top.

He has a weird thing about my sister too, very Donald-Ivanka-ish. I know he doesn't mean it in any type of weird way, but to any normal person, it definitely is weird.

I'm glad your holiday went well, but like I said, I'm so embarrassed to even acknowledge our relation. He has been fully consumed by the Trump effect, feeling emboldened to say whatever is on his mind due to his "fuck pc" mentality.

I just stared at the wall when my grandparents were homophobic over Christmas and so did my sisters. My sisters being so supportive makes me not even care about my grandparents tbh.

I went to college with this woman (pre-transition for both of us), and I am floored by her ambition and bravery. It's also really cool knowing that yet another LGBTQ person went to college with me (sometimes you wonder if you're alone at a small Franciscan university.
