So, this may belong more in the dating and relationships thread, but I thought you all might have better insight.

I am a 28 year old bisexual female, and any time I go out to our local gay bar and meet women there, they always seem to be girls that are just looking for a night of fun experimentation, and then they can go back to their hetro lives. I don't want this. I don't want to be some 22 year old's fun night where she makes out with me and maybe touches my boobs and then decides she's been bisexual enough and goes home. This seems to be the majority of girls that are frequenting the gay bar now.

Does anyone else have this problem that the gay bars aren't really for gay/bisexual people any longer? Am I being overly sensitive and shouldn't expect meeting people at a bar to lead to any type of actual relationship and just accept the one-night-stand nature of them?

I concluded long ago that gay bars aren't a fit for me, mainly due to things like the post above mentioned. That and having drunk men think it's okay to sexually feel me up like it's no big deal, that too.

I don't get this cultural infatuation with going to gay bars and not being gay.

I guess it's to showcase how accepting one is, but I dunno that's an invasion of someone elses space to me, and I know I'd be frustrated in kind of I tried to pick up a dude at the bar only to find out he's there as a tourist.

The last time I went to a gay bar my lesbian friend spent the whole time moaning about how all the women in the room were straight lol. Yeah they're definitely for me, don't even bother anymore.

It's also a thing at pride events too, like it seems to be the new hot thing for straight teenagers to go to and party and that's fucked up to me. Events like that aren't a playground for you to run around and drink underage.

Yeah, I realize the bar scene isn't the best for starting what I hope to be a beautiful and long lasting relationship. :D Unfortunately, my town is small so it's one of the better places to actually meet people of the same-sex variety.

It is pretty maddening that young straight people have co-opted Pride events as a place to party. Sure, having straight allies is great, but not if the straight people are just there to drink and wear rainbows.

This sucks. I feel like a lot of queer spaces are being lost in the name of a bigger profit by catering to heterosexuals. Goodbye lesbian bars and now goodbye afterellen.

Brian Anderson, a professional skateboarder, has come out publicly as gay. I saw the headline and thought it was cool, but since I haven't really been entrenched in the skating community in the last few years I didn't think much of it. But as I watched the video, there was just this amazing feeling of comfort seeing such an amazing and prominent skater talk about being gay. Growing up I heard "***got" and "that's so gay" a hundred times more from my skater friends and the skating community than like, my baseball team. It just felt like such an anti-gay environment, which was fucked because the whole culture to me was tied to counter-culture and punk rock and hip hop and being different than everybody else. But the language was so explicitly and aggressively homophobic. And part of it I'm sure was being 11-18 years old, everyone was talking like that in middle school and high school when I was growing up, and I'm sure the skating community has changed a lot and looks a lot different now. But it feels really, really great to see such a powerful and great skater come out. I retroactively feel a little less alone than I did when I was at the skatepark at 14 hearing every other guy there scream "FUCKING ***GOT" because they couldn't kickflip a three stair.

We have a released a set of strategies and goals, we believe, should be implemented by all music websites in order to create a more equal and inclusive music community. Here are the strategies and goals:

Ya that's why we have a few of the mods that we do. And a couple of us chorus people work together along with others on safer scene (which started from APnet).

i actually created a doc six months ago for moderation and posting regarding discrimination and harassment. that got editing from a few chorus members as well. it's just not published yet, so that's Jason's call.

That's awesome! Thanks for working hard to improve and promote inclusion and equality. We applaud your work. We'd also love to learn more about what practices your team has put in place so that other websites can learn from what works and does not work.

Also, we'd like to apologize if that post came off as aggressive or accusatory. That was not our intention and we hope that your team did not take it that way. If you did, we apologize.

I have never been so excited about bathroom stalls in my life. Honestly, I have never thought more about bathrooms in my life than I have in the last year. I really never figured as an adult I would be so happy as I was earlier this month, when I went to pee at a burger place and they had two gender neutral bathrooms.

i relate to this so much. i was pretty big into skating at age 12-13 and being in that scene was what really normalized a lot of homophobic slurs for me, which would take years of work to undo. not to mention the stuff i internalized which probably is one reason why it took so long for me to figure out my sexuality. very cool to see someone in that community become visible, i dont hang out with skaters or keep up with much outside of who i follow on instagram but i hope that community is able to progress because it was the furthest thing from a safe space for queer folks when i was growing up.

This is fucking super relatable. I was heavily into skating from 99 to 06 and yea..I remember feeling so uncomfortable hearing all the slurs at parks and street spots..but I've seen change just from following the younger regime and it's awesome.
