just when i think i have found all the shrines that are obtainable without completing a quest....boom - glowing green lights seen in the distance from the top of a sky tower.

I can’t really fairly judge between BOTW and this until I beat it. But my feeling at the moment is that they took BOTW and improved on it. It’s BOTW2.0. It addressed some issues or annoying things from BOTW, the new abilities are game changing and better than the BOTW ones, there is more story (and it’s cool so far), the sky islands are neat, I think the constructs are preferable to the guardians, and everything in the depths.

Things are going to have to start to get really annoying for me to consider BOTW superior. But the ending will likely help me settle this for me. No clue how far I am from that. I just started the lightning temple.

saying this game is better than BOTW takes absolutely nothing away from BOTW. BOTW is an incredible game. This is just better in every possible way.

I prefer the champions abilities and runes in botw compared to the ones in this game.

Mipha’s grace is the only one I would want in this game. Ultra hand, fuse, and ascend are way better. Ultrahand makes stasis and magnesis basically pointless, minus being able to use it to see enemies with it. I forgot about cryonis most of the time anyway. Haven’t had a need for bombs rune. Now that you can just fuse a rock to a stick to smash rocks, it’s all good.

I think it’s way too early for me to judge whether this has topped BOTW for me (to become my favorite game of all time), but I will say that the two have sufficiently different moods that I can fully understand liking BOTW a bit more. BOTW is a much more solitary, lonely experience than TOTK. I mean that in a positive way — it has such a particular feel that I’ve never experienced from any other piece of media, and the solitary feel of that game is part of what kept me so fully immersed in the world.

On the other hand, TOTK has been much more of a group experience, both in-game with the supporting characters and also IRL, since everybody and their cousin is playing it and talking about it. That’s been fantastic, but also breaks the immersion a bit for me at times. When I played BOTW for the first time at release I didn’t know anybody else with the game, so every idea I tried was something that happened organically rather than coming from friends or the internet. Again, not sure which I ultimately like more, but I could definitely make a real case for BOTW either way.

I absolutely love TOTK but I do think having the same map slightly lowered my experience. I knew where everything was, didn’t feel the need to explore as much, etc. Whenever the next game comes out i’m excited for something brand new.

BOTW is my favorite game ever but I haven’t touched it since 2018 so the map is basically new to me lol

I’ve done 3 full playthroughs, including getting 900 Koroks every time. I’m sick.

Just flew to a random sky island and got a map with a pinpoint in the depths. Gonna do that, then finally start the main quest (basically been told to go to the Rito area by Purah)

I've been grinding shrines/towers/everything else under the sun and done heaps of side quests, etc. but haven't done anything mainline yet. Think it's time.

How many resources does Nintendo of America have. I'm serious

They really could not give less of a shit about presentation. Most tightwad localization company in the biz

I think this game would benefit IMMENSELY from a new map and new characters. Keep the mechanics, start over. Eight new dungeons in new places, no shrines, new cultures, new lands. Sky islands and underground aren't enough if every single "new" place has the exact same design. Go to one sky island and one chasm. You're done. As far as art direction is concerned, you've seen it all. Zero motivation to keep poking around everywhere like in the first game.

I'm not excited to go help the Zoras and the Gerudos. I did that shit already. I don't care if there's super mario sunshine sludge or whatever the fuck. Game has so much to do but after you get used to the loop the novelty of the world is gone. It's TOO big, and there aren't enough new environments to keep me interested

I have about 90 hours in this game and so far BOTW tops this for me easy

Like, yeah TOTK does tons of things better than BOTW, but it just feels like a rehashing of everything and doesn’t feel nearly as exciting, so there’s no way it tops BOTW. Playing BOTW for the first time was an experience I’ll never forget, this is just more of the same in a lot of ways. Still love the game, it just is what it is.

Tonight's adventure: Still in the frozen wastelands, avoiding the Gleeok while trying to complete some stuff in his general vicinity.

I didn't mention this, but yesterday I also got to the lab and got some upgrades to the pad, so now I can sense shrines.

Anyway, there was a shrine on an ice pillar, and I ended up getting to it by attaching rockets to a platform and gliding off of it to the shrine. The platform fell apart at just the right height, so it worked out wonderfully. Didn't do the shrine yet though, gonna do that tomorrow.

Also gonna try to find Zelda's "golden horse". I bet it's just painted gold.

Just got the master sword. Very sad about that final memory though.

I forgot to mention yesterday that I beat my first gleeok. I ran into the King gleeok and ran away today. I beat the lightning temple. Probably gonna do some side quests and explore the Faron region, as I haven’t gone there yet. Need to find some durians. After I explore a bit, I’m heading to Eldin.

I'm nowhere near good enough to take on any form of Gleeok yet. Waiting until I have some sages I guess? Starting main quest tonight after about 50+ hours of play, woo.
