I rewatched last weeks episode again and picked up on a few more things.

I noticed that when Kevin says to David Burton "you tell me, you're God," Burton responds by saying something like "Im not really, that's just a pick up line." So then who the hell is Burton??

Also this may have been totally obvious to everyone else and I'm just clueless, but there were comments suggesting that Kevin has been going back to this alternate world many other times since that karaoke scene. So he was lying when he told Nora he always takes the plastic bag off his head in time.

Maybe Kevin just coincidentally knows of Burton because he was a famous-ish guy IRL.

Pretty sure at some point early in the first or second season you can hear a radio broadcast describing a dead man returning to life in a cave, I guess we can assume that's Burton and it's not crazy for Kevin to know the story. But it didn't seem like Kevin recognized him at all

Agree on these points, but we're also not accounting for the fact that Matt meets & talks to Burton on the boat during the first half of season 3. This would mean that Burton is real or Matt is seeing/experiencing the same delusion.

He's definitely real. Other people on the boat see him and know him/his story. I doubt we'll see or hear from him again so he's probably going to remain a mystery. Best guess is he's like Matt and can die and come back repeatedly.

[edit] He's like Kevin. Not Matt. Maybe he's like Matt, I don't know. Dude hasn't died...yet.

I've somehow let these build so I could binge before the finale. I have 4 episodes on my DVR right now. I can't even imagine how much has happened since the last episode I watched.

Lindelof totally prepared for the finale to be polarizing.

"How will fans of The Leftovers feel when they finish the HBO drama’s final episode Sunday night?

“I don’t know, man,” says showrunner Damon Lindelof, whose last series finale was rather divisive (that would be ABC’s Lost). “I’m probably quite literally the least qualified person to answer that.”

But don’t take that reply as a lack of confidence. When plotting the current third-and-final season, Lindelof convened the show’s writers for two weeks straight to simply figure out The Leftover’s last scene. “There was a lot of spirited conversation, a lot of emotion at the table,” he recalls. “It was my feeling that we would not stop until all the writers agreed we had the right ending and the most authentic ending. We put blinders on, and then we did not deviate.”

Eventually, he says, they cracked it. Yet Lindelof remains uncertain about whether fans will agree because, after all, there’s no way to possibly know how an audience will respond. “I find it to be immensely satisfying and true to the show,” he says. “But it’s possible that the audience will have an entirely different reaction to it.”

Found this Twin Peaks podcast with Damon Lindelof as the guest. I'm loving both The Leftovers and the new Twin Peaks so this is a great listen for me.

    Ep. 4: Helloooooooo, Damon Lindelof!

Series ends with Kevin finally showing us his enormous cock. It's the biggest mystery of the show. We know it's giant....but how giant.

I'm between Nora and Michael. Which sounds impossible considering they're both polar opposites.

As much as I think the ending doesn't matter..as in i don't need answers for anything...i do want the last episode to be great. I've enjoyed the tide and never wanted answers but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want a bonkers ending .
