I’m willing to pay $20 as a vote for getting original comedies made and in theaters (safely, when the pandemic is over).

Tbh I would pay $50 for a double feature of Tenet, and NTtD right now in the comfort of my own home on my 4K.

I guess I thought that was only a reaction when it came out, but people came around to it over time

Was really bored by the first half of this and really engaged by the second half. I don't think I needed SO MUCH "Apatow." I get it, he's a fuck up, get on with it.

It gets trashed a lot but it’s one of Apatow’s best (we all know deep down that Heavyweights is the real MVP).
    Fuck Facebook. lol

unrelated: i didn’t think i’d be getting another action bronson cameo so soon after the irishman

    Die rad.

Lol that entire scene just felt so random. Still loved it though. I also read that during this quarantine he has been dropping a ton of weight from clean eating and exercise. Good stuff

He was legitimately funny in that scene.

I thought this was fucking excellent. I had high hopes going in but it was still better than I was expecting, great acting from everyone involved, genuinely really heartfelt and sweet alongside being really funny, and incredibly personal feeling. I really feel like public opinion will drastically change on Pete after this, I almost feel like people will understand where he's coming from more. You can really tell how much this film meant to him. As for Apatow, this might be his strongest movie as a director, it never dragged at all for me. In fact I wouldn't have minded if it was a little bit longer. Really liked the indie feel to the cinematography too

Also Action Bronson fucking stole the show, everything he said was hilarious. Loved the fact that it both opened and ended with Kid Cudi songs too

I thought this was excellent - so this is now my favorite film of 2020.... probably until I get around to watching Da 5 Bloods.

Gonna watch this soon, I'm pretty sure I hate anything Pete Davidson does but I also haven't watched too many things he has been in. I suppose this will be the true test.

Also I fucking love Funny People and wouldn't change a thing!

  14. Maybe this is because the theater in Erie charges less than $10 a ticket, but seeing someone call a $20 rental "reasonable" -- let alone $40 or $50 -- seems bonkers to me

anyways this looks fine, I generally enjoy Apatow's movies but also feel like I've grown out of them. excited to check it out when it's a little cheaper to get ahold of.

  16. sure, if you happen to go for those things (sometimes I do, sometimes I don't), but anything I snack on at home is also something I spent money on, in addition to the $20 movie lol

  17. Idk, I love movie theaters. I'd rather spend ~$20 to see a film I'm anticipating (especially a comedy) with an audience and theater snacks than $20 to watch it at home alone, but maybe I'm in the minority.

I paid $20 for that Trolls movie for my daughter and while that was a solid deal cost wise, I still made sure she watched it because it was $20.

I can't believe it's that much to *rent* the movie. $20 and then after a few days, poof, it's gone.

You’re not alone. Paying $20 just to *rent* the movie is a no from me. Especially considering when it eventually is available to actually purchase it will *still* cost $20. If they were allowing you to keep the download forever right now that would be different. As it stands, it’s just the film studios transparently double dipping.

I accept that theaters have to charge higher prices because, uh, they’re theaters with employees and utility bills and all that. Doesn’t mean the studios have to gouge us for rentals when they get to now skip the middleman and make almost pure profit.

I still don't think it's price gouging. You gotta factor in that most households have at least 2 people. Here in NYC you can't see a movie in a theater for less than $17 a ticket. So two people watching a VOD for $20 still saves them 14 bucks.

UFC ppv fights cost $60 to rent, and a lot of boxing fights cost $100, just to put into perspective.

If you pay $20, you should just be able to own the movie now. It’s the same price as it will be in three months. They’re not going to suddenly start selling brand new digital copies of movies for less than $20 because they already got you for $20 back when it was just a rental.

I really enjoyed it. The first 30 minutes dragged a little bit but I think it really picked up nicely and by the end, I enjoyed spending time with the characters.

I think this speaks to a lot of people who are really stuck in a rut and have a lot of baggage they don’t know what to do with. You sort of hate him but also feel bad for him at the same time. The relationship with his girlfriend-not-girlfriend resonated with me too as someone who always had commitment issues at that age. The whole “you make everyone else crazy with your craziness” thing brought me back to my early 20s. I wasn’t that bad but I definitely alienated the people I loved because of my own issues. I can see not everyone empathizing with that but I felt that.

I live on Staten Island too so it has that extra layer of local flare that made it fun (Bill Burr is wearing a shirt with the name of a local real estate agency, the streets are all places where I’ve hung out as a kid, etc.). Also the story about his dad kissing the cop who turns out to be a kid he went to high school with, that is such a relatable Staten Island thing to me. I’m sure it happens a lot of places but it’s always a running joke here that half the kids you graduate with become cops, firemen, or sanitation workers.

Pete Davidson isn’t the greatest actor but he’s believable and he’s a local guy, so you buy what he’s selling.

A+ cameo from Action Bronson too.
