Heard Day & Age while driving through the desert today and it sounded better than usual. Dustland Fairytale will always be my favorite.

A Dustland Fairytale is probably the undeniable best song from that album, but I've also always felt like it's so out of place. In my ideal world, they saved it for later that's the lead single for Battle Born and "Tidal Wave" takes its place on Day & Age.

I always liked the sound of "I Can't Stay." It's the type of sound they only explored on that song, but I feel like they nailed it.

I definitely agree that Dustland Fairytale would fit perfectly on Battle Born. It has never struck me as feeling out of place on Day & Age though because really the album is such a random collection of songs anyway.

  5. I remember, I was 13 when Day & Age came out. My parents got it for me for Christmas and I opened and listened to it on Christmas Eve. It's the first time I ever heard a CD in full and thought, "Wow. This sucks." The Killers were one of my favorite bands at the time (even Sawdust is one of my favorite b-sides albums, I still think it's underrated). It's silly, but I don't think my interest in this band ever quite recovered from that disappointment. I still try Day and Age (and recently, Battle Born) once every couple years or so, but aside from a few exceptions, they just don't come close to touching the quality of Hot Fuss or Sam's Town.

I am also aware that this is due in part to the memories I have attached to those first few records (they're my go to karaoke picks). But man, Battle Born is bland at best and Day & Age is a straight-up bad record. I could put together a better Sam's Town follow-up using Sawdust tracks exclusively.

Man, I wasn't really active on music sites when Day & Age came out but It's always crazy to hear how many people didn't like it. I don't think it's on the same level as Sam's Town but I love Losing Touch, Spaceman, Neon Tiger, The World we live in, and Goodnight Travel Well. My least favorite track on it is honestly Human.

I like Day and Age just as much as the first two. The instrumental arrangement is really well down and such fun to listen to.

I like almost all of the songs on Day & Age enough on their own, but as an album it left something to be desired.

The Day and Age thread was my first encounter with AP. But yeah, that album’s no good. Goodnight, Travel Well is the definition of a slog.

Best Killers song, on the band's worst album.(I haven't heard the new one yet)

Wrecked 'em? Damn near killed 'em!

He sounds so damn good on this song. I could see Brian being absolutely thrilled at this.

I'm pretty sure I reviewed Day & Age for my school newspaper when it first came out and man...I hope no one ever finds that.

New interview with CoS, where Brandon is asked about his comments on rock music:

They also talked a bit about how critics respond to their music in general:

I've never really heard them be that open up this stuff, so I thought it was worth sharing. The whole interview is pretty good and worth checking out.

This is interesting stuff. I still think Brandon kind of put his foot in his mouth with the "no new rock bands are good enough" comment, but I do think it's been sort of weaponized in reviews for this record, kind of like the "Sam's Town is going to be one of the best records of the last 20 years" quote was. That's one of the (many) gripes I had with the Stereogum review, which is thankfully still by far the worst piece I've read on this album.

I need to give this album more time but my immediate impression was there were a lot of rock bands that put out albums better than this one this year.

This album has really clicked with me in a very big way. I've quickly started to love almost every single song on here. The only song I've cooled on since my first few listens is Have All The Songs Been Written? I thought it was just alright at first but it's actually gotten worse and worse for me on subsequent listens, to the point where I find it really bad at this point.

I still feel like Dave Keuning's guitar is sorely missed in a big, big way on this album, and that coupled with the lackluster programmed drum sounds I think is what kills that song for me. Aside from Brandon's voice it doesn't really sound like a Killers song at all to me. The rest of the songs I enjoy immensely but I do feel like some of his signature leads and guitar work could have propelled many of these songs from really, really good to absolutely f---ing incredible.

Money On Straight was probably my favorite song on first listen and it's still probably the song I enjoy the most out of all these, even if it doesn't perfectly fit the theme/themes of the album.

I love this but I also understand why people don't. It's not the best rock album of the year by any stretch, but some of the lyrical themes combined with the melodies are hitting me in a big way since I've been so depressed. I don't think I expected this album to be the pick me up it's been for me.
