I feel like the Man was a bigger hit than people are giving credit for here too. It got a lot of action on alt radio from what I remember

It just seems like those songs have absolutely no legacy or lasting power, among Coldplay fans or otherwise. I doubt that I could find someone in my immediate family or friend group who could name “Adventure of a Lifetime” if I played that song for them right now. So maybe we’re stretching the definition of “songs everyone knows” too far.

Fair point, but if they're anything like my family or friend group they probably don't know whatever song is #1 on the Hot 100 right now either. This whole conversation is definitely oriented more favorably towards folks who were fans of these bands in the mid 2000s, when their songs got the combination of radio play and VH1/MTV coverage that made them feel ubiquitous.

As someone who saw Coldplay headline Made In America during the AHFOD run (the other headliner that year was Rihanna; it's a predominantly younger hip hop crowd), those two songs were well known and rang off with an audience that I was not expecting to sing along. Part of that is that Coldplay is just so great live, but they knew the songs.

It blows my mind that all of Coldplay's platinum singles, in America at least, are from 2008 and after.

    Aren't we all, brother.

What's your top 10 midway through the year, considering you've heard Ruston and I haven't?

Just a rough order, but I'd say some variation of these 12:

    Katie Pruitt
    Jason Isbell
    Ruston Kelly
    The Chicks
    Caitlyn Smith
    Phoebe Bridgers
    Will Hoge
    Brian Fallon
    Hailey Whitters
    Ken Yates
    Tenille Townes
    Margo Price
    Mandy Moore

    What about you?

This thread is making me feel very old and very out of touch, but as a big fan of both Coldplay and The Killers I am enjoying it.

I've got the below standouts rumbling around from the first half of the year, but I'd probably throw The Chicks in there as well at this point. I’m not thrilled about this ordering (Jason should be higher for sure).

    1. Katie Pruitt - Expectations
    2. Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher
    3. Waxahatchee - Saint Cloud
    4. Nation Of Language - Introduction, Presence
    5. Perfume Genius - Set My Heart On Fire Immediately
    6. Ken Yates - Quiet Talkers
    7. Charli XCX - how i'm feeling now
    ---
    8. Fiona Apple - Fetch The Bolt Cutters
    9. Neil Young - Homegrown
    10. The 1975 - Notes On A Conditional Form
    11. Jason Isbell And The 400 Unit - Reunions
    12. Christian Lee Hutson - Beginners
    13. Destroyer - Have We Met
    14. Westerman - Your Hero Is Not Dead

I didn’t really connect with the Waxahatchee album on first listen. Need to give it another shot.

Yeah, that should be an easy one for you. It gives me major Dylan vibes actually.

I have a hard time understanding why their singles after Human weren't huge. Runaways, Miss Atomic Bomb, and Shot At The Night were soooo fucking good. Probably in my top 10 of their entire catalogue.

Also, this is my favorite song by them ever and it should have been as big as Mr. Brightside:

I think the four-year gap between Day & Age and Battle Born hit their mainstream momentum a bit.

Just Another Girl is quite good (and the video is awesome), but a mix of the lyrics and chords give me more Taylor Swift vibes than traditional Killers!

My mother, and I quote, "hates Mr. Brightside". It's really hard to take her seriously about anything else now.

Also, why hasn't their tour been canceled yet? Obviously it's not going to happen, tickets never went on sale, and now the album has a new release date, but they haven't said a word about the US dates that are scheduled for next month.

Did anyone in here pre-order this? I was looking for my confirmation email because I'm going to be moving before this ships and couldn't find it anywhere.

I did. They actually just sent me an email yesterday confirming my order and the new release date.

Yeah I did from Bull Moose. Have a bunch of preorders being released in August.

I still didn't see any sort of official communication (shocking), but the US dates that were supposed to start next month have been quietly removed from TK website, and now on Ticketmaster it's showing as "postponed" with no new date. It didn't say postponed just the other day, so this was very recent.

If anyone is curious about the timing, based on the details in the story, the events they describe would have taken place in 2009 during the Day & Age Tour
