Star Ocean First Departure really scratched that SNES JRPG-era itch for me, it's really good.

 

Also have you played any Atelier games?

 

Yeah I have played a few of them over the years. I was a big if Ryza and I still need to play the sequel.

 

Square Enix made a youtube channel today and uploaded a ton of classic JRPG soundtracks.

Just saw a review for the Chrono Cross "remaster" and I'm fucking pissed. Looks like total ass.

 

ugh yeah it doesn't give me hope. I'll probably pick it up anyways since the only way I can play it at the moment is on my Vita

 

Yeah, I would like to play through it again. I had a really great run going on my PS2 and the second disc shit the bed.

 

Yeah total bummer, I’ll still play it.

 

It is odd to me that Square has been and is fully remaking so many SNES titles (Secret Of Mana, Trials Of Mana, Front Mission, Live A Live) but chooses to do the bare minimum for their PSX titles (Final Fantasy VIII, Saga Frontier, Legend Of Mana, this game).

 

The Chrono Cross remaster has a 75 on Meta. That's good enough for me.

Different systems have different scores apparently. It's better on Switch than PS4? There are less reviews on Switch.

 

Ohhh I see, I'm less inclined to get the Switch version because I read that has framerate issues, maybe thats on all versions?

 

I'm starting to feel like games need two reviews: one at launch and one two months later when they finish patching it in response to reviews and social media.

 

Or just be allowed to update your review/score when the game updates. Make that a normal thing.

 

Should I do another run through Trials of Mana with the 3 characters I didn't use last time? Or play FF9? It's my favorite FF but I only finished once way back in 2013.

Yeah I've been playing pretty much nothing but turn-based recently so Trials would be a good change of pace. I really enjoyed my first playthrough of it.

 

I went with Trials. My first run through I managed to pick 3 characters that don't include one of the three main pairs that have a related story (Kevin, Angela, Rietz). Kevin/Charlotte, Angela/Duran, and Hawkeye/Rietz are the pairs, and I went with Hawkeye/Rietz/Duran this time

 

Does anyone know if Xenogears holds up? It's a game I've always wanted to play and I've been holding out hope for a remake but I'm starting to think that won't happen. Worth $10 on the psn store?

 

I've never played it personally but one of my friends whose JRPG taste very much overlaps with mine adores it. They did steer me right when it came to The World Ends With You so I'd be inclined to think it's as good as they say it is.

 

For $10 I would absolutely pick it up. It's often hailed as one of the best JRPGs of all time. Another perfect remake candidate, won't ever happen tho.

In other news, I think I might hold off on Live A Live and start FF9 again all these years later
