This was a pretty undeniable masterpiece. You definitely feel the weight of a whole life lived in it. This entire decade has marked a fascinating high point in Scorsese’s career.

Al Pacino eating ice cream sundaes was delightful
And yeah Jesse Plemons had the same screen time and dialogue as Anna Paquin
I know they were all bad guys duh and it was the 70s but there's a lot of like using jew as a pejorative and cock sucker in this movie
I had a hard time following the individual mob rackets but I know it's mainly about familia

will be going again today, it's settled so well after my first viewing last week. just grows more haunting the more it sits in your mind

 

When I wrote about Scorsese and this decade I forgot that Shutter Island was this decade too! What a fascinating and diverse stretch this has been for him.

 

Assuming that The Irishman is the achievement everyone says it is, it would be one of his better decades. Certainly better than the 2000's.

 

i would argue the 00s was his worst decade though haha. kinda low bar.

 

yeah his 3 (fiction) films in the 00s are 3 of his most famous but neither comes close to his best

 

The 80s was an odd decade for him between Raging Bull and Goodfellas. I need to revisit King of Comedy but I still like After Hours as a black comedy

Pretty good aside from the couple next to me that would not shut the fuck up for 3 1/2 hours — including an answered phone call and 30 second conversation. Fuck.

I’ll have to rewatch when it hits Netflix.

 

I love his 00’s

The Departed remains one of my all time favorites

 

I still think The Aviator is Leo’s best performance

Goodfellas is such an impressive piece of filmmaking. One of the reasons I don't worry about The Irishman's length is how quickly films like Goodfellas and The Wolf of Wall Street go by. Casino, on the other hand, drags really badly. It feels like DeNiro and Stone get in twenty different arguments and fights and then it just resets again.
