No opinion on those specifically but I will need to figure out ways to spruce up the yard/front of the house when I get one

 

For the second time in two days, someone has come to my house asking if my dad was home. I get it, I am 29 and look 19, but cmon

 

I didn't get this one. Hopefully another one comes along and it works out soon

 

I know the feeling. Whenever I go out with my parents and my daughter I feel like people assume I'm my daughter's brother

 

I'm trying to move out, but it's so hard to find an affordable apartment in my area that isn't too far from where I work, and I don't want to transfer locations. I don't make much over min wage, and I also need to buy a new car. But when I do move out, I'll probs go crazy over decorating. I already have a couch that my dad agreed to give me, I also see pictures I'd like to purchase and I'm slowly collecting kitchen items. I want a bistro set for a patio, among much more.

 

Buying a house is one of the most stressful times in life. I was under contract with two different houses before the one I finally bought. They fell through for different reasons. I was outbid on a handful of others. I probably looked at 40 or so houses in total. My only advice is to not get frustrated and settle for something you don't love. If you aren't in a rush, take your time.

 

I have until January before my lease is up, so I do have time. Having lost out on this one, I'm worried about whether I need to offer more than asking price next time. But then that might cause some trouble with the financing

 

I personally wouldn't offer over asking price.

Your real estate agent is hopefully is good and understands the market. They should be advising on what a competitive offer is. If your house appraised for less than your offer, you'd have to make up that difference yourself if you decide to not walk away.

 

@ChaseTx i ageee with @spiffa0 . Being that you have the time, I certainly wouldn't offer over list unless it's something you REALLY want.

 

Yeah don't do that. Terrible investment when you try to sell it later down the line.

I feel so old. I'm going to buy a new garbage can for my kitchen after work and I'm excited. What's wrong with me.

 

Oh so they're still working on it? When do you get to move in?

 

About a month from now! We just started work on Saturday.

 

I haven't posted anything in while as far as my house is concerned. But I've been doing a lot of painting recently. This is my first full year in the house, and I'm trying to get things done on the inside and then next year, I'll focus on landscaping and what not.

Anyone use landscaping companies for edging, mulching, flower beds? I don't need a landscaper for mowing or anything, but my beds BADLY need edged, weeded and mulched. And what something like that would even cost?

I've mulched the past few years myself, which isn't a big deal, but because the edging is so bad (Near nonexistent) it's like putting lipstick on a pig and I've tried to create the edges myself, but it was pretty difficult.

 

What was difficult about it for you? I do it every year, maybe I can provide some tips?

 

Difficult may not be the right word...time consuming would probably be better. My house is only 8 years old, and was (to my knowledge) never properly edged between my beds and my lawn (I didn't build the house, so I don't know). So for me to edge between my beds and my lawn, it'd be like, creating the edge, if that makes sense. There's no previous edge to just shave off or fine tune. My lawn literally goes right up into the beds, there's no separating space in between. I started to edge myself a little bit last summer and it was like digging into concrete, there were parts of the ground that were just really tough to dig into.

As far as the weeds in my beds. They're out of control. I don't get it. My neighbors don't have half the weeds I do and I don't really see them ever outside picking weeds. My weeds grow at an insane pace. Very sharp, prickly weeds too. Every year, I pick them by the roots (pretty much weekly) and then I try to bury them with more mulch but they continue to get through.

If it makes sense dollar-wise, I'd like to hire someone or a company to just edge (for the first time, then I can keep up with it myself once it's properly edged) and then maybe figure out my weed situation. I feel like my neighbors do not have the problems I have...but most of them use a landscaping company.

 

This is what I did on the back corner of my house; this was all grass before. Do you just have a lot of clay or something where you are? I dug about 4 in deep, put down one of those weed tarps, then put a top soil and old dirt on top, about two-three inches back, then munch. Some weeds get up, but it's not out of control.

 

I have been browsing home decor stuff and I'm too cheap for this life lol. Also I went to Target to look at shower curtains and so much of it was just blah. Like various shades of beige. I need more excitement than that in my life!
