Part 1 is a stand alone single.

For Music Appreciation class, I'm doing a presentation on "Piano Player" and I'm talking about the song. I'll be discussing the aspect of enjoying life, the interesting choice in mix/Jason's take on laying down in a field, the sustain/so stay, the vocal effect of the first verse, the young/old aspect, and my take on the lyricism.

I want to talk about how there's REM influence, so what would be the best REM song to show during the presentation to compare?

Also, if there's any cool insight on the song that you'd like to share, let me know, because I'd love to richen my presentation with insight I might have otherwise missed! It doesn't have to be strictly musical. A lot of what I'll be talking about is the emotion it invokes.

I could be a weird outlier, but to be honest -- I found Home to be much more accessible. Songs like In Framing, Housebroken, and even Life In Drag were more immediate for me than I've found anything on here to be.

Not that either album is meant to be particularly accessible, to be sure, but this one really seems denser and doesn't have those couple songs you can point to and say, "those are the songs you show a new listener".

I agree that that's the song if there is one. But I'd still take In Framing first every day of the week.

Yeah seconded with Two Delieverances. Was In Framing the first song you heard? I'd have said Scope for me as that was the first song I heard but in retrospect, I'd agree that In Framing is probably more accessible.

both records are dense and require a lot of listens to fully unfold, but Home offers a lot more on first listen imo. that being said nite ratz is their most accessible, immediately grabbing song

Interesting that you'd say that because Goodness has taken a lot less to hit me than Home did, but I suspect that might be because I (for want of a better word) 'get' the band more than I did when I first heard Home.

e: Nite Ratz is a killer catchy song

Yeah I was gonna say once you've cleared the initial hurdle of getting into the band, subsequent albums are probably also easier to get into

Weirdly out of all songs on Home, it took me longest to get into Scope and In Framing. Wrote them off as generic pop punk songs at first but then they clicked and became so much more. Think Your Deep Rest got me into them, and that's normally the song I link to people.

  16. "Scope" is still one of my favorites, I think it's pretty unique/far from generic. Used to play that song on my radio show all the time

I was shocked no one said Your Deep Rest right away. Definitely the song I would choose to get someone into the band. That opening guitar riff that drives the whole song is perfect.

There's quite a few people here with advances but I think the majority heard it about a week ago - there were a few days when it was available on some weird streaming site by clicking around in the songs to hear different clips.

Yup. The only reason it has a late May release is because of the vinyl (most likely?).
