Watched We Summon The Darkness today. Very enjoyable little movie with a decent twist

I haven't seen that one either but from what I understand it's their closest approximation of the original script from a variety of sources

still surely worth watching but Blatty's real original cut before the studies hacked it up is probably lost forever

decided to watch back Mike Flanagan's early films that I haven't seen this week

just watched Ouija Origin of Evil which was pretty good. the classic cheesy Blumhouse SFX kinda brought it down in the second half when everything kicked off though. enjoyed the first half when it was more subtle a fair bit. also never seen the original Ouija, and based on the reviews never will, so all the tie-ins were lost on me

  5. My Vinegar Syndrome order is supposed to arrive tomorrow (super fast shipping), but with any self control, I'll hold it for this weekend so I can do The Last Drive in Halloween Special Friday and my Vinegar Syndrome triple-feature (Limbo is only 50 minutes) on Saturday

I didn't like Oculus when I saw it years back and I have no idea why, that movie is great. you can still see Flanagan working out the kinks in his style, but his writing and thematic concerns are all there

actually, it's kinda wild how much stuff he went on to put in Hill House is all in that movie - the inanimate supernatural object which distorts reality and corrupts adults, the mother trying to kill her children etc. the way Karen Gillan's character goes out is super similar to Nell too! not saying it's a bad thing, it's cool how these themes and images recur through his work

Life really keeps getting in the way lately and my viewing has suffered as a result. Watched Let The Right One In this weekend though. It had been quite some time since I'd last seen it, but what a beautiful movie. I love frosty crunchy snow locations and settings. Also, the scene at the end is still such a rush.

Any ideas on what JBB will show? A lot of people have been guessing Halloween 3 but I still don't think they'll do it since it hasn't been available on Shudder. I could see Haunt being a modern one for him to tackle.

Aside from the reocurring thematic elements and motifs, I believe he's known to put easter eggs in his other films as well. I know the mirror from Oculus makes appearances. Did you ever see Absentia? Also, now that I am looking through his imdb, there is a movie called Halloran that he is attached to. Is this another Shining movie?

I haven't seen Absentia yet but I'm working my way backwards haha. and you're right, the Oculus mirror shows up in Ouija, Doctor Sleep and Hill House, it's a favourite easter egg of his. really cool spotting it once you know it's there

I think Halloran is some kind of Shining prequel that he's producing? he's not directing or writing for it as far as I know

As for tonight, I’ve got House & House 2 going on in this place. Might even throw on The Horror Show for good deed since I also own that!

Them (ils) is now on Shudder for anyone who hasn't seen it. It's a short exercise in suspense for anyone who enjoyed The Strangers!

instead of tourist trap last night, we went with night of the demons. what a wild ride that was and how it escalated so quickly. i'll definitely check out the sequels.

  16. He seemed to give two hints in his latest teaser: that the films were either released or take place 31 years apart, and that both feature killer druids. The leading guess is Halloween 3 and The Evil Dead remake, because there was a cabin in the original promo image, but Haunt also seems like a good guess! The only other movies about killer druids I can find are The Guardian (1990) and Warlock: The Armageddon (1993). Based on the clue, I kinda think Halloween 3 is a lock lol but the 31 years thing is throwing me for a loop.
This is still on my list, I was a little dissuaded reading it was an Evil Dead ripoff but I've read enough praise itt that I'm sure I
    I'll have fun with it.

I somehow completely missed the "killer druids" hint haha. I mean, I am all for Halloween 3. The Evil Dead remake would be badass and that does accomplish the 31 year difference!

  18. Honestly would love for it to be something more obscure I haven't seen a dozen times, but these are both great flicks and I certainly wouldn't miss catching them on the show!

I loved the first 3, I need to finally get around to watching Victor Crowley. Did Green return for that one or was it also a different director?

he directed the fourth one. Budget is crazy low, but the fun and gore are there.

I watched The Babysitter since someone mentioned the sequel in this thread. It was fun! I can't believe how young the bride from Ready or Not and Snakebite Andy from Doctor Sleep looked.
