Oh my, The Troop was so brutal. I found that book off a podcast/book club called Bleeding Rainbow that I believe is now defunct. They also recommended "My Best Friend's Exorcism" by Grady Hendrix and that was a lot of fun.

I am currently reading The Croning by Laird Barron. I'm finding it quite scary, and the writing is excellent, but I do have an issue with some of the misogynistic language he uses. Still, I'm finding the overall tone highly effective.

If you want some real top tier shit, both The Haunting of Hill House and We Have Always Lived in the Castle are perfect.

 

Watched the original My Bloody Valentine last night. I appreciated the absurdity of the premise, but the movie didn't really work for me - hated the characters, hated the reveal, and while the gore was good, it was a little too vicious for me. Not enough humor to balance it out.

 

My Friday the 13th boxset comes in on Thursday and I'm very excited to revisit some of those for the first time in years.

 

Mine’s supposed to come in tomorrow from Amazon. I know people who got theirs from SF a week early and all I could feel like was this:

To be critical of some things (because why not!):
Wish the Bonus Disc had artwork and not just text, even if it were just the pic from the box set

Still bums me out that Freddy vs. Jason and the remake are the same exact BDs as their previous New Line release. Wild that there wasn’t a single extra feature to find/make to throw on them.

the backs of the boxes (I know I know I know) leave a little to be desired


Anyway, it rules and I’m super happy and excited to watch!

 

I've been out of town and away from Chorus since last week but is there a consensus on Bly Manor in here? Just curious and will watch it regardless.

 

Eh I can deal with that, it’s not a deal breaker to me considering the sheer amount of content throughout the set. That said, SF basically did the same with the Thirteen Ghost release having the exact same transfer from the WB release BUT they at least put some decent features on the disc.

 

I haven’t personally watched it yet but from what’ve seen, people seem to dig it a bit.

Hill House has scarier moments, Bly Manor focused more on story and a bit of a slow burn.

I like those type of horror too.

 

Speaking of new movies being collected, my buddy hooked me up with a gift card from Severin so I could pick this up. I’m mad excited for it to come in, it’s an easy pick for my top five favorite zombie movies.

 

Is anyone into analog horror? I’ve been getting into this lately and damn, is this stuff creepy.

It’s basically like old VHS tapes that start normal and then it slowly goes into creepy places. There’s just something unnerving about them, from the creepy music and SFX to the glitches.

 

oh i am so into this. doing all three of these promptly after work.

 

Damn, I'm gonna check those out tonight.

 

i watched a bit of the first one, very creepy. i'll try one later in the evening, before watching my horror pick (I haven't decided yet). feels like a good way to set up the mood.

 

The scariest thing I've seen in this thread today is your avatar.

I hate that hotdog so much (playing that level I mean).

 

Pretty sure the first time I reached the hot dog I died because I started laughing too hard lol

 

that happened to me too, for real

the way it builds up to that is incredible. off screen you just see a red, white and yellow projectiles/sauces from the left and you're just like puzzled and angry because it's so damn tough to get through the stage. and then you reach the end and see that goddamn hotdog was the one throwing them and it was just so hilarious. made some delicious hot dog buns that week
