I got about 40 minutes into the original Last House on the Left and had to give up. It was a little too gratuitous for me. The tone was all over the place. I just couldn't really appreciate it.

Weirdly, I was not. I can't really rationalise why I like them so much but I guess that is the magic of film, no real reason to do so.

I actually enjoy the remake a lot more.

I do too. But it is also very gratuitous and can be a tough watch.

Watched Relic last night. I liked it alright, worth the $6 rental on amazon for sure.

The Beach House is like Color Out of Space with every ounce of humor removed. Fucking gnarly.

  9. Trailer for Relic looks very Hereditary. I really have to be in the mood for that kind of movie.

Is it going to be $6 for the next couple weeks on Amazon? That’s a really great deal, but sometimes Amazons rentals change price frequently. Wasn’t planning on watching it this weekend tho I might.

The price has me interested too. I was afraid it would be another super expensive rental but that’s not bad at all. I do wonder if I can handle it right now since I’ve heard lots of comparisons to Hereditary as well and I’m in no place to be that destroyed by a movie currently.

Also Criterion is doing a double feature of Last House on the Left and The Virgin Spring later this month and that gets a big side eye from me. The Virgin Spring is hard enough, and you couldn’t pay me to watch Last House on the Left, but both in the same day?? Hefty no thank you.

It definitely has Hereditary influences, and has the ability to potentially fuck you up a bit. It didn’t me, but it got to my wife a bit.

I’ve yet to have a movie fuck with my head as much as It Follows.

Does it have as strong themes of grief and loss and familial pain/destruction as Hereditary? That’s what I’m worried about putting myself through right now.

  14. I saw the film at Sundance this last winter and the director did a Q&A afterward. I remember her saying she made the film about her grandmother’s struggles with dementia.

Session 9 on Netflix is pretty decent and worth a watch.

I watched this movie in college with friends and while I did like it, we all laughed at this part

I pretty much hated Session 9 when I watched it a lot of years back. I only watched it because the stinger quote was used in a Folly song. That meant I knew the reveal before I even started the movie. Didn't really find the whodunit all that compelling. The image of the eye thing was pretty awesome though.

I also find abandoned prisons/mental institutions to be a good enough creepy setting for a movie

Been awhile since I popped in here. Gotta get back on the horror bandwagon.

Watched “The Taking of Deborah Logan” on Tubi the other night and even though I had seen it before it still fucking creeps me out. The actress who plays Deborah was terrific and if horror movies got recognition in awards she should have been nominated. Her eyes, facial expressions and movements at times are sooooooo squirm inducing.

forgot how... zany the final 10 minutes or so was. Felt like a low budget scene from Resident Evil and then the last “main shot” of Deborah at the climax reminded me of a creature from the Dead Space video games or something lol

but still, I love documentary-style horror so I definitely enjoyed it again and Deborah is still creepy as shit

John Lee Hancock doesn't inspire literally anything in me, but still cool.

    watched Relic tonight.

    hmm.

i LOVED the shapeshifting house. reminded me heavily of the house from House of Leaves, so that was super cool and neat to see in a visual format.

sorry not sorry but i straight up CACKLED when they show the grandma entity thing after losing it's "human form". looked like a dash of a baby E.T. along with idk a muppet or something. was not expecting that lol

has an atmosphere a bit along the lines of Hereditary and maybe Midsommar, where the score builds to a growing sense of dread or creepiness for scenes, but definitely not like those movies imo. i also didn't find any scenes / moments NEARLY as memorable as Hereditary has, which isn't a knock on the movie, few movies do have as memorable a moment or two as Hereditary does, just saying from my experience Relic feels like it will have the impact of most horror movies i watch - mostly forgotten and rarely thought of or remember within a few days.
