Yep! I’ve have a handful of classes with him. He has a giant poster of Freddy’s Revenge in his office.

Have you seen the retrospective doc Never Sleep Again? They go into the unintended gay themes from the movie.

I love Freddy’s Revenge. Once you realize the whole movie is an allegory about a guy being in the closet and Freddy is his sexuality trying to get out, it turns into a completely different movie and it becomes awesome.

I’ve never seen it. I’ll bring it up to Jack in the fall and see if it was intentional.

IIRC, the screenwriter intentionally wrote it that way and the director didn’t realize this until later on after it was filmed.

I no shame adore the Saw franchise. Some entries are drastically better than others, but I had decent fun with all of them.

Side note, I love the franchise so much that I did the official Saw escape room on one of my Vegas trips, and I’ve got to say, that is a must do experience for any fan of the series.

Have I ever mentioned here that I met Tobin Bell once at SDCC and he called me by my mother’s name despite me never mentioning what it was and then we both did double takes for a while?

Yeah it was super weird and hilarious. I introduced myself and then later when he went to sign my poster he was like, “Melissa?” and it honestly took me a minute to correct him because I’m so used to random people calling me by her name. When I told him what had happened we just sort of stared for a while... then later I couldn’t stop laughing about it. It was so on brand for him.

It was definitely a major highlight of that trip. The director (I think?) was also at the signing and didn’t even look at me, but Tobin was super soft spoken and sweet. It was one of those very SDCC moments where I got to do it because I saw some promo that no one was participating in and I felt bad so I let a creepy nurse make me her “victim” and like put a band aid and gauze on me, then it turned out the prize was meeting them and like a four foot poster. It was all very surreal.

one honestly gets a bump for what a started. I appreciate what it is, and the twist is iconic. but 2 worked out so many things cinematically that originally didn't work in 1.

So I went to see Midsommar yesterday and then watched High Life when I got home... what a day haha.

super excited to see my theatre was packed for Midsommar even though Lion King is out.

  20. Re: Midsommer, my number one pet peeves is people laughing during serious scenes in horror movies. I get that what's happening may be totally bizzare, but come up. People can't handle nudity anymore? Or the vocal thing in Us? Frustrating.

yeah I totally agree, but I think audiences just aren't used to such bizarre imagery and so they just get uncomfortable and laugh. while I was watching the trailers I kept thinking I was in the wrong theatre because it was so packed, and then I was looking at the people and I was like... did y'all see Hereditary and know what you're in for? haha
