Yeah, I’ve listened to a few episodes before. I feel like they usually call out the same things I would.

I stopped listening to HDTGM when the total ad time went above 10 minutes in an hour long podcast.

But that Sleep Away Camp episode was gold.

I just watched Takashi Miike’s Gozu.
Wtf was that? It was like if David Lynch made a Japanese movie. I kinda liked it...?
I’ve only seen The Audition by him. Ichi the Killer might be next for me.

Anyone seen Rampant? I watched Train to Busan (brilliant movie) and was planning on watching this next.

No, but I will soon. Train to Busan is a modern classic.

Miike has a wide range of movies all over the spectrum of bizarre stuff. I haven’t seen Gozu, but a wtf statement is far from surprising haha. Ichi was fun, but a little incoherent if I remember correctly. Worth the watch for sure, since it’s arguably his most well known/renowned film outside of The Audition

I post about this movie a lot lol but I feel like a large portion of the plot of I still know what you did last summer relies on ppl not knowing the capital of Brazil which seems like a thin concept to hinge things on. I mean I guess u could argue we already know the killer is coming back anyway so who cares but like. I care.

I watched Ichi with my brother and we didn’t really get it, but I hear the director’s cut includes more and is much better, so I’m trying that next week.
I was first exposed to The Audition from the clips in MCR’s first music video. I saw the movie, then made my brother watch it. He kept saying it was a romantic comedy until the last 20 minutes hahaha

I've never actually seen I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer but at this rate idek if I can power thru for the sake of irony lol it's so boring. Without JLH screaming into the sky it's just not a proper entry into the franchise.

For some reason our teacher had us read the original novel to IKWYDLS in middle school around the time the movie came out

    It’s surprisingly not bad right?

I Know/Still Know are fun slasher films, but the acting and storyline are all over the place. JLH is a first love for the little version of me.

I did end up finishing I'll Always Know. So many weird stylistic choices lmao. It's like they took the style from the movies that were popular at the time like the ring and the grudge and then applied it to a slasher which didn't work. It had like rapid jolty edits like what happens in ghost films but there were no ghosts... Maybe? The killer was unclear to me lol he was like Jason Voorhees all deformed and unkillable. And the fashion was so painfully mid 00s. Long tunics with jeans and giant chunky belts I couldn't handle it.

So that one is completely detached from the first two it sounds?

Yeah they vaguely connect it with the urban legend of the fisherman and then they bring up the first two movies and how they realize that what happened was true. But it's all a different cast. And then the new casts ends up accidentally killing someone so that's the same plot. The killer is supposed to be Ben from the original ones too which... Lol.

    Suspiria was fucking incredible imo

The original or recent one? I’m curious how it compares to the classic.

I meant the remake. it's gonna come down to taste, for me personally it's the exact kind of arthouse, meandering, ambitious horror that I absolutely love. but people looking for thrills, big scares or the fever-intensity of Argento's original will probably not get a whole lot out of it (and that's okay)! if you've ever seen Possession (1981) or Don't Look Now, those are the closest things I can compare Luca's Suspiria to, particularly the most (in)famous scene in the former
