That's too bad. I really loved the movie. How did you feel about Oldboy?

I haven't gotten around to it yet. I liked Ichi The Killer a lot though... Which I guess falls into some of the same categories

  3. Ya I love I Saw The Devil too.

Something about the Japanese/Korean revenge flicks just rubs me the wrong way. Gratuity for gratuity's sake.

not japanese or korean, but what about big bad wolves?

It was decent. Something about the film left a bad taste in my mouth, but I'm struggling to think of it now.

The Japanese films have a bit of a wackiness to them I feel like. Tends to take the heat off the brutality. The Koreans are much more unforgiving/unrelenting. Maybe that's why you didn't enjoy it? A little less balanced?

The Guinea Pig series, what country was that from? It's that type of shit I just can't get behind. Anyone seen the American remake by any chance?

I'm trying to think, but there isn't one single Asian horror movie that I'm into. The Ring and The Grudge type of stuff are decent but that's about it.

I liked that one quite a bit
yeah I agree with you there, I Saw The Devil is a much more "straight" movie than Ichi.

With ISTD, I don't feel like there was a relatable character. The protagonist doesn't have anything to define him except his rage, and his actions cause other people to be killed and hurt. The only character that's really fleshed out is the killer.

  10. The Host is a pretty good Korean monster movie. I'm blanking on other Asian horror I like, but there are a handful of good ones.

It's their brand of humor that I don't enjoy, and they sprinkle it in with most of their horror.

Is that the one that had an indiegogo thing? It sounds familiar but idk if I'm thinking of the right thing. My dad donated to it and got a copy of the movie and a lil fake piece of flesh or something. I didn't know anything about it but he got insulted when I accidentally called it the hamster movie. My dad likes to watch things for shock value. I'm not a fan.

  13. I like shock/extreme when it's well-made and there's a sense of purpose to the movie. I like a lot of the French Extreme movies and stuff like Imprint (from Masters of Horror), but wasn't a fan of Guinea Pig or the August Underground series

Audition and A Tale of Two Sisters are probably the two best Asian horror movies I've seen. It's not my favorite kind of horror, but there are some great ones for sure.

I don't know if it was crowd funded or not, but it's brutal. I haven't plunged into the whole movie but the trailer and video reviews are more than enough.

I will say that the technical aspect of a movie like this is off the chart. It takes an immense amount of talent to pull off what they did, but the ending turned off a lot of people. Because if you can imagine, the last 10 seconds was more fucked up than the hour and some odd minutes of graphic torture.

Love I Saw the Devil. Only part I'm not crazy about is when he visits his cannibal friend...The alternate/deleted scenes from it are even weirder.

Anyone remember the movie from 2003 called Nothing? It was from the dude who wrote Cube. Really weird yet good at the same time.

Just watched Stitches. Holy shit that was awesome. So funny and entertaining. The gore effects were great. Stitches himself is easily one of the best slasher villains in a while. If you haven't seen it, it needs to be near the top of the list to see.

The gay fat kid died way too soon. He was hilarious. But getting killed to I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight was perfect.

I liked VHS 1 & 2 quite a bit. Southbound was... not great. More so than VHS, this reminded me of a cheap short story collection. There are some interesting ideas there, but none of them are very well executed. It also has the pitfall a lot of horror shorts have: character backstory and motivations are hinted at but nothing concrete. In every segment. This is frustrating to me because I prefer to have a clear idea of what's going on.

Anyway, it's worth a watch but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it
