    No.

If you want a satirical take on the genre, check out Final Girls.

EDIT: Sorry, I'm not a fan of the genre as a whole. There are only a select few that I actually enjoy. I can't get behind the mindless drivel that surrounds slashers.

I've written some screenplays, and I can't imagine having to dumb things down to the point of a slasher movie. It's really, really hard to write something that isn't interesting.

It's all good. Like someone was saying in this thread before, it's a novella or "who dun it" more than anything, which I can find the fun in. Something amusing to watch when I'm drunk at 1am in the summer months.

EDIT: What are the one's you do like?

A few of the Friday The 13th movies just for the sheer stupidity and the coolness that is Jason.

    -Scream
    -Scream 2
    -Final Girls
    -Behind The Mask

I'm really struggling to find more, but nowadays the home invasion sub genre is taking place of the straight up slasher. Take Hush for example, has the remnants of a slasher, the antagonist is a masked (for a few minutes) killer but the fact he's only trying to get into one house makes it NOT a slasher.

Mindless slashers are like my fave horror subgenre and I'm drawing a blank. I liked all the boys love mandy lane if that counts. It has the dude from Crossroads in it!

I loved The Collection but didn't like The Collector. Collector leans more towards home invasion while Collection is just batshit fun.

Do most of us equate slasher with a masked villain? That's probably not a good thing, but I'm guilty of it.

I equate slasher with a killer who is terrorizing a group or person and it has that who done it aspect and it's usually fairly gory. Not a great description lol but no I don't associate it with a masked villain

Yea I get what you're saying...but most slashers both old and new have a dude in a mask.

    Maniac is a slasher.
    Maniac Cop is a slasher.

Neither of them wear masks but they do exactly what a slasher movie does.

I don't know, but since I like to write, I can't get behind something that has almost no story what so ever. I mean, all you end up with are slug lines that would resemble the following:

The two girls remove their tops as they run to the pool.

Horseplay ensues and touching turns into grabbing and eventually kissing.

    Girl #1
    Oh my god stop it.

    Girl #2
Come on it will be fun.

Someone carrying a large ax approaches from behind.

    And that sucks.

Slasher is a killer who seeks out his/her victims, usually within a confined space with a high body count. He goes to them vs something like TCM which is characters invading the home of the villians, a stumble upon

The Hatchet movies are so much fun. I also like High Tension, Cold Prey, Wrong Turn, and The Hills Run Red. And that House of Wax remake is really entertaining.

I really love predictable horror movies that everyone hates lol. Like it's not all I watch but predictable pg13 horror is my bread and butter. The familiarity and predictability really soothes me and my anxiety for whatever reason. With slashers I always know when it will be the real scare, when it'll be the fake out scare, and when someone will die and yeah it's oddly soothing lol

    I'm Back.

Me and my wife will sit there and watch a random horror movie, any genre really, and determine 15 minutes in what the outcome will be. We're correct about 75% of the time and that's not a good thing for horror today.

If I can pick out the ending, or who the killer is, or what the twist is, I lose interest immediately and wind up picking the movie apart.

I love predicting killers and endings. I'm not always right but usually. But then I second guess myself and end up having like 5 working theories going on at once lol so my odds of being right are usually pretty good. Like I mentioned earlier it's prob the Novela watcher in me. I love predicting things and creating theories and annoying things like that lol

There is a good movie up on Netflix where we didn't see the ending coming what so ever, it's called Last Shift. It's about a haunted police station and a rookie cop has to babysit it overnight before it's shut down the following day...I think that's the plot, I might be messing up on that last bit but it doesn't entirely matter.

It's pretty damn good with an ending that actually makes sense yet out of nowhere at the same time.

    Doing fine. Prestigious

My only disagreement on this is the confined spaces. Slashers tend to have a setting of a larger scale i.e. neighborhood, town, or campground. Smaller settings start to push more into the home invasion sub genre imo

Crazy, I thought it was one of the more refreshing VOD movies to have come out in the past few years. I don't want to spoil it but the ending made it for me, plus the scares throughout were actually pretty good.

I watched I Saw The Devil last night and didn't love it. Maybe I liked it less than I would have if I hadn't seen so much praise for it, but for me it wasn't much better than an average violent revenge flick. Decent but disappointing given the hype
