You're not missing much. There is some comedic entertainment, but I don't find any substance to the series aside from laughs and Warwick Davis embodying the idea of an evil leprechaun to no fault.

my understanding is that was more of a drunk provocateur stunt; he was raised believing he had jewish heritage (not that that necessarily means much) and the man thought to be his father was involved in German resistance actually (not that that necessarily means much either) so you can sort of see the mechanisms of a horribly perverse joke characteristic of his sensibilities somewhere in there. but at the minimum another one of those things where youre like dude........ cmon.

Watched Cargo this morning. Not really sure what type of “zombie” apocalypse movie / genre this was but I enjoyed it (instant similarities to The Road in a lot of ways)

yeah it's okay, don't know if i'll watch it again though. also the movie is not shy about showing what happens when a human gets shot with a rifle

  19. Man, Halloween is a stone-cold classic -- maybe the greatest American horror film of all-time -- but Halloween II is one of the few truly great horror sequels I've seen. It carries over enough of Carpenter's style (with Carpenter still writing/producing). but also stretching out in terms of kills and mythology. Can't recommend double-featuring the two of them enough.

love both of them. definitely a Halloween tradition to double feature them. this past year I finally watched Halloween 3. I just always avoided it because of what I heard. while not a Michael myers flick, I thoroughly enjoyed it. the next I want to revisit is Halloween 4 because I've heard on enough podcasts and read enough in articles people making good arguments for why it's worth revisiting.

I saw Deadpool 2 on Friday and watching Downrange was still the most fun I had all weekend. What a beautiful mess. How can a movie be so formulaic and so bold at the same time? It had the audacity of a lot of Japanese horror movies, which was really surprising to me as I didn't know anything about who the director was going in. Definitely one I'm going to put on at parties and demolish a bag of chips over

We're on the same page here haha. I do find it interesting that some of the more graphic kills and nudity in Halloween II were added due to pressure put on Carpenter, so as to have it more appealing and like other slasher films during that time period. If he gotten to spend a bit more time focused on suspense and fleshing out the family story line, it'd probably be equal with the original in my book.

  24. Hah, I just watched Season of the Witch last night. What an absolutely bonkers movie. It didn't make a lick of sense (I'm not sure what I execpected) and the ending was unsatisfying, but it's almost impossible not to like. Just a wild ride from start to finish. Onto Halloween 4 tonight, will report back.
Actually, believe it or not (at least according to the people working with Carpenter at the time) the blood and gore was added at Carpenter's insistence. I only know this because I just watched the special features yesterday, but supposedly, he felt that there had been so many imitators of Halloween since its release (including Friday the 13th) that he had to up the ante to hold the audience's attention. In all honesty, I like that Halloween II differentiates itself from the first; it's certainly not better, but it gives the film more dimensions and still stands out despite being closer to what we now accept as a typical early slasher film. Those are just my thoughts coming off a first watch though.

And with the rest of the Making Of documentary in mind, it's kind of a miracle the movie worked at all. Lots of cooks in that kitchen.

This may seem a bit dark to some, but one of the reasons I like Halloween 3 is cause they actually kill a kid. Makes it more real and really let’s you know that no one is safe in movies. Even as a kid, I always thought it was lame that kids were always used as a “safe zone” and were mostly always depicted as goofs. One example, Jurassic World featured those kids in so many dangerous situations but knowing they would never dare hurt them in the story, I never felt or believed them to be in any serious danger
