What's funny is the first time he won an Oscar he couldn't attend the ceremony because he was stuck filming Jaws 4

  3. Not sure if my worst quality is that I kind of want to see The Meg or that I definitely go to bat for the Purge movies

I’m not crazy about the Purge films but they’re fun low budget popcorn movies and they fulfill that quota well.

I feel the opposite way. The story was more compelling to me with the first movie. It didn’t try too hard with social commentary. I can see why people like the sequels, but I much prefer a slice-of-life story in this universe.

Over the top social commentary is what I like about those. That and dumb action

I felt like the first Purge just wasn't interesting. Even before the first sequel was announced I remember people criticizing the first movie focusing on this wealthy white family when the disenfranchised would be impacted the most. Ethan Hawke' s family wasnt an interesting area to focus on and its like why have this concept if youre not gonna explore it. I felt like the sequels actually listened to the criticism and explored how it would really impact certain populations while the first one had this crazy concept but was nothing more than a run of the mill home invasion story.

  10. Trailer for The Meg looks like straight horror at first, then it goes completely bonkers.

Sam Rockwell was the only redeeming quality. The CGI in the third act is laughable

If I remember right, they tried to tie the recession into it with the family being too broke for the house.

Jumping on the AQP bandwagon. That was excellent. Everyone at the theater was really into it. Definitely something you need to experience on the big screen first.

    What did I miss? Thanks.

Hmm. Didn’t even know about this one. The premise sounds fun and definitely one I would like to watch. Thanks for the rec.

You all should be watching The Terror, if you haven't yet; gets pretty creepy and weird in parts

Lately I've been having nightmares every time I watch a horror movie, even if the movie didn't scare me at all. I'm not impressed.

  21. Not much! The family is split up in an abandoned general store getting supplies and medicine. Their youngest brings a toy rocket to the family after a conversation about "rockets" with his sister and the father takes it, removes the batteries and leaves it behind, telling their son it would be "too loud." As they're leaving, the sister gives the toy back to her youngest brother, who then grabs the batteries on the way out, eventually setting the toy off as they cross the bridge home and getting snagged by one of the creatures before the father can save him. Hence his sister blaming herself for his death throughout the rest of the film.

Oh that is awesome. I came in 10-15 minutes late, but the show must've started late as well because I was able to catch that.

    Thanks.

  23. Candle Cove was...creepy, campy, inconsistent and kinda disjointed. But overall, it was pretty fun. Excited to start No End House.
