Whoa. I've yet to see Babadook but I've seen that still frame of the white smiling face thousands of times but never knew it was from Babadook. Seriously thought it was Johnny Depp from Alice in Wonderland or something.

hm. It was ok. it just felt kinda formulaic and neat - Stephen King has always grated a little cheesy for me with his ideals of unity, and the motif of the over-the-top bully is just so dull to me ( i mean, jesus, one of his first scene he's slicing open kids' stomachs). i'm also sad a lot of the racial elements of Mike's story were underplayed. i feel like the scares weren't always really... focused? which makes a bit of sense, as that's Pennywise's MO, to keep switching, but one result of that is that Pennywise as a monster loses focus as a cohesive character, showing up every once in a while in various forms and occasionally saying something funny. sometimes he's really big, sometimes he giggles, usually he lurches at the camera a little too quickly for human speed. etc. i dunno. perhaps this will be explored more in the second film, but an important element of Pennywise is his connection to the town and what that represents. this felt more like a montage of small kids being inspiring and sometimes a CGI clown growls.

I don’t know if I’ve ever been more anxious watching a film than in that basement scene in Zodiac

Not necessarily scary, but a great scene. That scene in Mullohland Drive is terrifying

The best is how it sets up your expectations for the rest of the film and continues to subvert them. That scene happens really early on but there is a lot of similar camerawork in the rest of the movie that suggests there will be another scare but he doesn’t do it. Instead you are left just feeling consistently anxious

Yesss. After that I was seriously thrown a curveball for the rest of the film. Plus that ending is super unsettling lol

i don't think they'll include it, but technically, in the book, they don't touch upon this until the second half of the book - like the last 150 pages or so. so, it could still be included in the second film, but i don't think they will. think they'll re-phrase it as "growing up faster than other kids" or "being smart like adults at young ages" rather than flat out going where the book did. at least i really hope they go another route.

  18. Going to my fave local arthouse for Night of the Living Dead and Suspiria back to back to night. Will be my first time for both. Pumped.

Much like a prior criticism to horror movies I made in here, and people going over the top/unrealistically dramatic and not being able to properly wrap up a horror story, the ending of Slasher season 1 sucked.

Might receive backlash for this but over the course of yesterday and today I watched the three Exorcist films and I actually liked the third film slightly more than the first.

Have an awesome time! I'm also seeing Night of the Living Dead (not for the first time, but the first time since I was a kid) at a theater tonight. I hope Suspiria blows you away, because it should.
