Just watched Friday the 13th, Halloween, Alien and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Really liked all of them but the last two in particular really surprised me. I've only seen Alien once before like 10 years ago and didn't really like it and I'd never seen the original TCSM. Both were fantastic.

Alien and TCM are widely respected and yet still deserve all the praise they get. They're still shocking after nearly half a century

Just watched the first three Elm Street movies on Syfy, seen the first one a bunch but hadn't seen any of the sequels before. Part 2 was interesting haha, Dream Warriors was a lot of fun but to me had more of a fantasy tone than horror. Still the dream sequences and effects were amazing.

    Doing fine. Prestigious

Child’s Play is kind of unique in that every single film is canon. So I’d say there’s huge benefit to seeing the others first.

I still don’t know what it was about Better Watch Out that bothered me so much. On paper, it’s everything I love, but its execution was just troublesome to me. I think something about it was just too demented for how little reward I personally found in it, and any possible statement it could have made about ‘nice guy’ entitlement was left unexplored. And that’s overlooking the obvious questions like why would a 12 year old even need a babysitter for a handful of hours. I get why people liked it, and it had all the makings of something I’d be excited to watch every year, but I don’t think the bad taste it left in my mouth is gonna leave anytime soon.

    One more thing:

It’s not a big deal to me because I didn’t view the twist as the crux of the movie, but if you want it to come as a surprise then you shouldn’t have the character involved ‘accidentally’ throw the phone into a fish tank, haha.

I don't think a twelve year old having a babysitter is really that out of the ordinary

I’m just nitpicking now but what was the deal with the sleepwalking? Was it just an excuse to have a pencil at the ready for him to stab the boyfriend, or was it to justify the need for a babysitter?

I’m also not trying to bash on the movie out of spite or anything - again, I got why people would love it. It just didn’t work for me, and because it pertains to matters that are very real and very toxic, I do feel obligated to view it more critically than most of the horror I’ve watched recently.

Lol that was pretty nuts. What the fuck were they thinking?

I enjoyed it, there were a lot of interesting aesthetic choices that I enjoyed throughout. The score was fantastic and I loved the practical effects. I was honestly unnerved by the ending of the film. Where is the real Ellie? If she was a robot, why didn't she die when they dumped the chips? Why did she help him? Really enjoyed the final scene and the decision to leave it up in the air.

Completely understand why it is so hated, can't imagine being a fan of the first two and then seeing that

Came across this last night: The Ghost Box

I'm really excited to finally have a copy of Born of Man and Woman. I tend to share that one with people every year but beforehand somehow always have to spend time on the internet recalling the title.

They're playing Dario Argento's Deep Red at a small cinema by me tomorrow. Anyone seen it? Would it be too gruesome for my girlfriend? She scares easily when it comes to blood/gore

It's the best! I'd say the violence is more campy than anything to be honest. It's still creepy due to Argento's skill but I wouldn't think she'd have an issue really
