    What'd you think of Belko?

  3. Belko was like...the best worst movie I've ever paid for in theaters. Really bad. But fun.

I watched it. I liked it enough, but The Blackcoat's Daughter is definitely the better film imo.

tbh: I had the same exact issue with both films

yeah i wanted to check out more of perkin's work after the blackcoat's daughter. i guess there are just some movies that you can't watch if you're kinda sleepy. i'll make it happen this weekend.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's definitely a slow one though

the crooked man getting his own spin-off really sums up the conjuring for me: a smattering of interesting imagery in an overwhelmingly run-of-the-mill series that gets stretched out way beyond its length.

not to mention it kinda apes the visuals of that great scene from It Follows

but people tend to really like the series so maybe idk.

I found the first in the series to be really effective, but it should've remained as a one and done.

The Conjuring may be called run-of-the-mill but it's certainly competently made and thoroughly gripping. The Conjuring 2 was wayyyy more of a mess.

Realy need horror to get out of its ghost hunting/exorcism/posession rut and back into slashers, please

That's what James Wan does. Very unremarkable but well made horror movies. I tend to forget everything that happens in his movies because they're so basic, but I enjoy them when I see them

I have ridiculously high expectations for the upcoming Halloween, but I'm not sure why.

I like both conjuring movies but I would be here for a slasher revival. My fave subgenre.

I want to write a slasher film that's set in the 90s. I'm so damn tired of cell phones and technology usage in films. I know it's relevant to modern times, but it takes so much focus away from the story.

Speaking of which, what movie would you say most adeptly implements those things to thrilling effect?

As far as recent films go, I'd say Hush.

I ultimately didn't love Hush, but that was the first one I thought of, too.

Yea I mean it certainly wasn't anything groundbreaking, but I really enjoyed it. I liked that the technology was basically an extension of the character's being more than an overused tool.

Hmmmmm. I think slashers are fun but they don't do anything for me as far as scares go. I like the whole paranormal/psychological stuff.

Eh, I mean, if someone asked me if we could watch the conjuring, I'd be like... That's pretty boring, what about something else. Not saying you're wrong but I didn't personally think it was particularly engaging.

Tbf I think he also does really shitty horror, like let's not forget about Dead Silence. The Conjuring is probably him on the top of his proverbial game, but that's not high praise for him from me. But, I will not dispute that he's very effective at making box office hits, his films are invariably money makers so clearly he has a good grip of how to market and produce his films even if I think they're artistically negligible.

Meaning ghost stories, or stripped down horror, or what?
