From what I remembered the older guy had a flashback showing a a family photos on a wall. It was told that the order was kidnapping and sacrificing people attempting to open the portal. I figured the rest was implied from there.

I watched some real horse-shit this weekend on Netflix.

    The Windmill
    The Windmill (2016) - IMDb

A type of slasher movie where the central plot is "someone unsuspecting leads a group of people to meet their death." You know what I mean? They're on a guided tour of Denmark, I believe. Their bus breaks down outside of this windmill that isn't on any historical map. Turns out the monster thing inside kills people to rid them of their sins? Somehow the driver is free of sin and is working with this monster. This is one of the rare examples where a movie has HORRIBLE CGI but brilliant practical effects. There is a head-squashing scene that looks incredibly realistic. Over all it was very dumb.

    Abattoir
    Abattoir (2016) - IMDb

I tried to watch this. I had really high hopes since it was from Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw franchise), but I couldn't even finish it. The acting was atrocious and the characters caught on way too quickly. Basically some old dude (old enough to be my great grandfather, a 40 something year old stated, which is absurd) is buying houses where violent murders took place. Then he immediately, and literally, tears out the floor, walls and ceiling of the room where the murder took place...and builds a house out of all those individual pieces. It's a cool concept but the execution was completely unforgivable. Not to mention the lead actress is dressed like she came the set of Grease and the detective character is every bit of cliche you could possible imagine.

The only things I've seen her in are Scott Pilgrim (fantastic) and Silent Night (bad). But she should be in a lot more

Was The Eyes of My Mother or The Canal any good? Just scouring Netflix right now for some horror.

lol in The Windmill when the guy is like "i take care of the innocents" i'm just like....really....okay then. so yeah this pretty much sums up my thoughts, and if i'm going to watch a crappy "ghost collection" movie it'll be 13 Ghosts. which I did watch, the other day. such good but dumb fun.

Eyes of My Mother is pretty fucked up IMO and I'd watch that one first. I liked The Canal but it didn't reinvent the wheel or anything.

Eyes was decently good, narrative falls a little short but as an homage to Eyes without a Face it works

The Void felt like a trashy adaptation of a Stephen King book that was trashy to begin with and it was awesome

  12. I think this has been asked before, but do I need to sit through the first Ouija to enjoy the second one?

Ouija 2 is a prequel. You could watch the first one to gain a little perspective but I don't think it's necessary.

The scene in the bathtub. Something should be said when the score is deliberately left out of certain scenes.

I've been kind of off on the horror game the past 3-4 years. I've seen a lot of the big horror movies that everyone talked about, but haven't caught any of the lower budget/indie films. Anyone have any suggestions of some horror flicks that have come out the past couple of years other than It Follows, The Babadook, The Witch and few other random horror movies sprinkled in that are worth watching? I want to get back on it. I really miss watching horror movies. It used to be my favorite genre, but now all I seem to watch are movies that are easily accessible for children, which is fine, but I want to get caught up.

Eyes of My Mother - Very brutal yet beautiful.
Starry Eyes - Great final 15 minutes, the rest was just mediocre.
Southbound - A good anthology flick, with the hospital segment being the best.
A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night - Need to watch.
    Honeymoon - Awesome.
The Final Girls - Best on this list.
Green Room - Decent enough, the unexpected brutality was a nice touch.
    Hellions - Haven't seen.
    Hush - Nope, not good.
    Love Witch - Haven't seen.
