Anyone have any recs for survival horror? Things like The Shallows, Rogue, 127 Hours, Buried. I know the quality and genre of those movies differ, but I'm in the mood for that kind of situation

There's a movie called The Survivalist, but I wouldn't consider it horror. More like dystopian dramatic thriller. I liked it either way.

Next thought is Eden Lake, maybe. Michael Fassbender and Kelly Reilly play a couple trying to survive an encounter gone really wrong.

Frozen. Eden Lake and The Descent count, too, I think. The Abyss? Cabin Fever? You looking for solo protagonists, environmental threats, or something else as the defining characteristic?

Cube. I also second the Frozen recommendation.

With the passing of Bill Paxton, I re-watched "Frailty". It's such a great screenplay. I feel like it gets overlooked because it's not quite horror in the classic sense.

Great suggestions, but I've seen both of these. Cube is one of my favourites

Oh okay, when I looked it up it said 2016 release but I guess that was a film festival premiere.

Get Out was so goddamn good. it worked on every fucking level. like literally co-opting black bodies and black art for the gain of white people. the blind man who "couldn't care less what color" his surrogate was. the fact that Chris escaped using cotton. i see you, jordan peele.

Love seeing Let the Right One In rated so highly. All of these movies are great, but that's one of my all times.

I was trying to figure out what would be number one, and I felt pretty silly for not getting it. I've seen all the other films lumped together so much as "the best modern horror films" - I've got to get used to this new addition.

  14. Trying to see Get Out tomorrow. I still haven't seen A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night.

I watched The Love Witch recently. Loved the nostalgic aesthetic and acting, but didn't end up loving the movie overall. Still worth a watch. I enjoyed Drag Me To Hell, The Loved Ones, Under The Shadow, and Train To Busan, but wasn't over-the-moon about them either. I probably need to re-visit the first two.

Pretty much love the rest of those.

Anyone seen a little movie called Within? Pretty decent flick about a "house with a secret" if you're into that type of thing.

Haven't seen Drag Me To Hell, Pans Labyrinth, The Love Witch, or Train To Busan. I like the rest of them a lot, my favorites being It Follows and A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night

Drag Me To Hell is a terrific movie. Surprisingly high replay value, too.

Definitely see Pans but I wouldn't go so far as call it horror. More fantasy.

The Host is real good. Korean movies have this unique approach to humor & sincerity in movies like these. It's hard to describe but I enjoy it.
