Thought Conjuring 3 was buns. It starts of with two pretty great scare sequences back to back in the first 20 minutes that pretty much diffuse any tension and mystery left in the remaining 90 minutes. Boring, awkwardly paced, and it manages to be convoluted while any characters that aren't the Warrens are severely underwritten.

 

yeah it was preeeetty dumb. the mix of horror, detective story, romance and like, weird goofy humour just did not play at all

my friends and I all burst out laughing when Lorraine grabbed the pill out of her locket lmao. I hate being noisy in theatres but jesus fucking christ

 

It was so annoying how they set that up too. Him leaving his pills at home once is foreshadowing, a blatant shot of the pill bottle after he leaves the house is like smacking your audience square in the face. Just no subtlety at all. Too boring to be a popcorn movie, not enough substance to be anything else.

 

I love that Lorraine, on her way to confront a dangerous Satan cultist, had the foresight and time to grab exactly one pill and put in her locket. not to y'know, just grab the whole pill bottle and keep it in her car or something

 

It's an entirely different type of movie, but have you seen the Guatemalan movie La Llorona? Came out early last year on Shudder. That one was so good

 

I haven't! I'll have to check it out

V/H/S/94 has been acquired by horror streamer Shudder

 

Nice! Just rewatched the series. Viral is weak overall but still had some strong segments. Fun movies.

 

Overall, I've also been very impressed with how Shudder has grown and the quality of their originals.

 

Yeah, I'm here for it. Quite curious to see what this one will be like after reading that they shot it during quarantine. Still think that the first one was sort of a cool landmark for what found footage stuff could be for me when I first saw it

 

What are the best originals? I need to do more of a deep dive into their stuff

 

Off the top of my head (and depending on what kind of horror you like), Revenge, Scare Package, The Beach House, Host, Scare Me, Hunted, and Fried Barry. Stay Out of the Attic and Slaxx were also fun. Cursed Films, Creepshow, and The Last Drive-In in terms of TV. Horror Noire is an awesome doc about black horror. I've also heard good things about Blood Quantum.
