Yeah I definitely don’t really care if people whisper commentary once in a while. But the people that talk at normal volume, talk the whole time, or have their phone out on full brightness need to get hit with a tomato.

I just don’t get how it doesn’t occur to people to just turn their brightness all the way down. It’s not that hard to still see it if you have to really take your phone out for some reason. Also not hard to just go stand in the back so you don’t miss anything. People have lives, so that’s fair to me. Multiple times and you’re just being an asshole that doesn’t care about anyone but yourself. And most people don’t hold the people they’re with accountable so it creates an uncomfortable situation for other people to say something. I don’t think I’ve ever said something or saw someone else say something and not hear everyone else around them saying thank you or whatever. It’s crazy how much different it is than when we were younger.

Sorry sore subject because there’s been at least one asshole at every movie I’ve been to in like the last two years. Lol

I haven’t had any real theater issues lately.

Quiet Place Day One was annoying because the crowd clearly wasn’t into the pacing. And because that movie is built on quiet moments, anyone talking was pretty audible.

I’m lucky because schedule-wise I can usually see new movies the first showing on Thursdays. Most times that’s around 3 or 4 in the afternoon so there’s not usually a ton of people there.

The people at my showings have all behaved themselves. Usually I go mornings, but have gone in the evening the last few times and everyone has been respectful and quiet once the movie started.

I’m usually going around 7-8pm on the opening Thursday or Friday because that just works for all of us. So apparently that draws an annoying ass crowd. Lol

You have to think of it in terms of leg length. The legs are long so $20 is kind of a steal imo

I had no idea it was, that’s insane. No wonder Hollywood can’t make their money back.

Just finished it and I agree. Would love to visit the alternate reality where Michael Mann just continued to adapt the Thomas Harris novels into movies. The 80’s vibes of this were immaculate

I don't see that as the point of the movie. I just thought it was fun as hell to see a female serial killer since we don't see that as often.

This Lexi Amoriello review captures my thoughts pretty well, spoilers tho: https://boxd.it/78O0LJ

it’s just like, I turned to my wife at the beginning like “ok, the obvious twist is that she’s the killer so it’s gotta be something bigger than that” but that was just it. It could have been a fun movie but that reveal was so obvious and the whole thing was embedded with the weird manosphere kind of misogyny where you can’t trust sexual assault victims and men are good guys at heart even if they commit 99% of sexual violence. It danced around an interesting theme there but it ultimately said nothing.

There’s parts of a good serial killer movie that subverts tropes but those tropes have been so subverted by modern movies that it felt like a really basic plot that didn’t surprise me at any point. I got hyped up by it being a twist movie and it was one of the most predictable movies I’ve seen all year. There were some really well done scenes, the main lead was incredible, some fun reveals even if I saw them coming, it just left me wanting something bigger and more out there. I was begging for a Sasquatch at the ending, but it was just a “don’t trust women and buy a gun” PSA.

    What a bummer.

Oh ok. The “finally hits digital” had me confused since I know I first watched it on Netflix. So I thought maybe there was some newer film.

I have been wanting to rewatch.

Just saw Possum for the first time. Had never heard of it and it came up on a best horror movie list. Far from the scariest, but quite possibly the creepiest movie I've ever seen. It just smothers you with the creeps right at its opening and never goes away. It's suffocatingly creepy. I didn't enjoy it but I damn well respected it.

  25. Why is it that we were able to rent physical DVDs of new releases for like $5 but it costs $20 to rent a digital file? That’s like making an MP3 cost more than a CD.

    Make it make sense.
